Default Bent Pressure Plate Finger Spring

Sup bundles of twigs!

Low pressure project, plenty of time to remedy this situation.

I've got a higher clamping load pressure plate on an organic disk-style clutch. It's for the 5.0 going into the Miata and I basically got it for free, and hate to scrap it. It has a single finger bent out ~1/2" at the very tip, and follows profile most of the way down.

Looks like the finger can be bent back easily. I will use heat, and will check profile points compared to neighboring fingers where the throw-out bearing will ride.

Would running it (should this beast ever run) be stupid? Any big objections?

Being that it's already a stronger PP I'm not worried if the other finger rides lower and it looses a small percentage of clamping load. V8 plans are only n/a...for now...

Sounds like a risk not worth taking. Should you get it lined up right, your still taking a chance on the heat you use weaking the finger or area of fingers. You dont want that finger staying in or out even a fraction as it will ride the bearing and or somthing else. PPs are cheep. No reason to chance it. Who wants to open their project up, again after it runs, finally.

I could be wrong, it could be just fine. I wouldnt chance it. An unbalanced drive line would drive me nuts.

how's it look when you bolt it down, any different? I know they all close up, don't think there's any bending pressure on them though.

I'll take pics tonight if the baby's asleep. Can't bolt it all up at the moment as motor is on stand though.
