1.8 vs 1.6 propshaft
Hi,
I want to add a 1.8 diff to my car at some point but its a kit car and I will need to shorten the prop-shaft to fit if I use my existing 1.6 prop or a replacement 1.8 prop so my question was, is the 1.8 prop-shaft the same as the 1.6 prop-shaft in all but length? If it is I may as well shorten the one I already have rather than buy another one and have to shorten it anyway. Cheers Stot |
The bolt circle is different, so you will need to use the 1.8 shaft with a 1.8 diff regardless.

Great thanks. Ill trawl ebay then.

Bolt circle and lenght are different because the input shaft on the diff as well as the flange are different 1.6 to 1.8.

When I bought a 1.8 diff swap from hustler way back in the day the driveshaft he gave me was from an automatic car and didnt fit into the 5-speed tranny. Fortunately he had another one that worked and brought it to my house and touched me.
So heads up about the auto vs 5-speed difference, but I wouldn't think it would be a problem in the UK (autos dont exist there). I used to have a picture of it somewhere... |
