3.636 r+p question
 

I did a search but didn't have much time to look at work. When I buy my gears do I need a special distance piece for the pinion. Anything else other than speedo stuff I should know about ?

Distance piece? What is that?

Btw. U may want to calculate your final ratio with your tire height and the r&p. buy speedo sensor accordingly.

I think he is asking about a spacer for the ring gear. I don't recall one being mentioned by anyone previously.

He's talking about the crush-collar, which I'd buy just in case.

Yes, it on the pinion shaft, are they different heights for different gear sets.

They crush to the right size, if done correctly.

I used a new crush washer when I did mine. Also reused the orignial shims with the idea that the new pinion shaft would be precisely machined like the old one, where as the housing\carrier is cast steel and alu with looser tolerances already shimmed within spec.

Anyway, no noises or issues last two years (only about 10k KM`s though...)

good deal, i figure im gonna need new diff bearings,pinion bearings and seals,axle seals,and a new crush spacer. the 3.636 will be going in with a new tomei lsd. Those parts sound about right?

I installed mine last summer, I ended up having to shim them quite a bit. If your doing it yourself, make sure to have plenty of shims available. I had help from a friend who used to build Winston cup rear ends. The spacing is spot on but I still have about a 40mph whine noise, not too bad, but I hear it. I may pull it back out this spring and check I again, but when installed the pattern was dead on.

yea you're always goign to need to replace the crush collar and any shims in the diff, unless you don't mind funky jerking from poor backlash. Sometimes some people get lucky and are like "idk why you need that stuff, mine worked fine" but thats assuming you land within the right specs for clearance. There's quite a huge effect from even seemingly small amounts of play.

Yeah I'm replacing everything, I'm removing the crush collar and making a solid peice, crush collars and collapse with high power

Both of my rear ends whine when cold, quiet when one track. Not sure if it's the poly bushings or something else.
