4.3 T1 to 3.6 T2 diff swap drive and shaft compatibility?

I'm going to be swapping my 4.3 torsen type 1 for a 3.6 type 2, my currant driveshafts are of the 4 bolt flanged verity, now the 3,6 I'm buying does come with a new speedo drive gear so the speedo will read correctly but will not be coming with any driveshafts, so before I start rippping things out I'd like to know if I need to obtain some new shafts.

My question, can I pop the splined to flange stubs out of my type 1 put them in the type 2, and bolt them back up to my existing flanged driveshafts?

I cannot see (in therory) why this would not work unless the diff casing on the 3.6 differed in width to the 4.3 and I'm pretty sure it does not.

Short, sweet and to the point, I like it.

Is this a swap you have done yourself aidandj?

Yes. All 1.8 Miata axle shafts are compatible. The pros of 2 piece axles is they are easier. The pros of 1 piece axles is you can buy them new.

Except MSM shafts, IIRC?
