4.3 T1 to 3.6 T2 diff swap drive and shaft compatibility?
I'm going to be swapping my 4.3 torsen type 1 for a 3.6 type 2, my currant driveshafts are of the 4 bolt flanged verity, now the 3,6 I'm buying does come with a new speedo drive gear so the speedo will read correctly but will not be coming with any driveshafts, so before I start rippping things out I'd like to know if I need to obtain some new shafts.
My question, can I pop the splined to flange stubs out of my type 1 put them in the type 2, and bolt them back up to my existing flanged driveshafts? I cannot see (in therory) why this would not work unless the diff casing on the 3.6 differed in width to the 4.3 and I'm pretty sure it does not. |
Yes.

Is this a swap you have done yourself aidandj? |
Yes. All 1.8 Miata axle shafts are compatible. The pros of 2 piece axles is they are easier. The pros of 1 piece axles is you can buy them new.
