I'd drive it, but I'd drive sanely. Metal chunks don't float and I doubt they will float up into the rotating assembly.

I did 450 miles with a blown 3rd gear, just put my headphones in to drown out the change in the washer machine noise, and crossed my fingers. I had AAA on speed dial, but figured there was no reason to use it so long as it would still drive.

I blew up 3rd in Rover two weeks ago at Thunderhill, and it locked up twice pulling it onto the trailer. You guys were all playing with fire.
