5 speed swap

hi guys i just did a 5speed conversion the other day and now i am having couple problems first of al my turn signals are not working, plus my rpm gauge, the lights on the gauge cluster and when i turn on the engine it makes a little biiiip biiip noise for a min. and my oil pressure and temp gauge is not working as. is there any idea why it can be?

18psi 03-26-2011 02:49 AM

wat

fooger03 03-26-2011 08:13 AM

he did an auto>manual conversion

Turk: Classic example of a shitty description of a problem.

Go read the newb threads, and then come back and try again.

I would go over anything that you unplugged and make sure you plugged it back in, the only wire I can think of that goes to the tranny is the one for the back up lights.

curly 03-26-2011 12:50 PM

There's two, one for reverse lights, and one I've heard of as a neutral switch, but I have no idea why we'd have one for a manual transmission. There are two switches though, I know that.

Turk, follow Fooger's advice. Use correct grammar along with more specific details so we can better help you.

Let's start with a summarized list of what was removed in order to replace your transmission. While messing around with the clutch pedal and clutch master, did you remove the dash or disconnect the gauge cluster?

Pen2_the_penguin 03-26-2011 02:02 PM

why would someone go through all that hassle to turn an auto to a manual? Do what I am about to do... trade in the car.

To start the car, its a that switch you shits have in your clutch peddle.

FRT_Fun 03-26-2011 02:08 PM

Yes buy mine right NAO for 2k. Or come pick up a 5spd shell for FREEEEEEEEEE.

Also agree with above about actually describing your problem in an organized way.

Yes there is that one, but there is another one in addition to that on our transmission.

I usually just hook up reverse and leave the other one off cause it's a bitch to plug in.

I personally would love to buy your car... but two problems:

-97', I just purchased crap for 94'-95', like MSPNP.
-No monies. Yet.

Ill consider it, after I replace my fail converter (torque) that I busted with the new amount of torque @11psi...:bowrofl:

I have to make sure I didnt destroy the trans itself as well.

rharris19 03-26-2011 02:40 PM

The neutral swicth on the trans is there to help regulate idle when in neutral. We have it unplugged on three of our cars and no real problems.

Because it's not harder than doing a clutch and flywheel.

I did my full conversion, with a flywheel and new (stock) clutch for less than $450. If I had the money at the time I would have put in a lighter flywheel and better clutch but I needed the car running without a fucked transmission.

Other reason? Get the car for under $800.

Awwwww shit bro.

Got me somethin' else to rip out. Sweet.

fooger03 03-27-2011 12:22 AM

I'd like to think the neutral switch also disengages cruise control....

...but it doesn't.

curly 03-27-2011 12:24 AM

Lol, my Lancer with commit suicide trying maintain speed if I pop it into neutral without the clutch, unless I coast to under 25mph. I know a couple other cars that will do this.

turk 03-28-2011 03:52 PM

the main problem that i have is i didnt do anything i gave to a mechanic to do it. But he doesnt know much about miata's and i dont either sorry for the bad describing. thats why i dont know what they unplugged or not

Stein 03-28-2011 05:05 PM

Could they have left a ground unhooked? Could be causing the (seemingly) unrelated lack of electrical devices.

chicksdigmiatas 03-28-2011 05:12 PM

The beeping sound when you first start sounds like the air bag warning. Oh... and when the neutral switch is disconnected, the cruise still disengages when you shift to neutral? I always thought that was the main purpose of the thing... Oh well.
