The switch in the 6-speed shifter-related design ('early' vs 'late') happened in mid 2001 at VIN 220739.
Your 6-speed's VIN is early style. So you need the middle shifter. The top shifter is for an later style 6-speed. The bottom one is for a 5-speed. |
JKav, thank you!!!! I knew about the changes on the shifter p/n's but could not identify them, really appreciate it.

Yeah, damn, props to you.

I only know because I recently had to research it myself. Long story short, anybody need a brand-new, 'early style' 6spd shifter? Cuz I have one that I can't use...
|
Yup, props to you. Was checking out the thread to potentially post the same info as I also had to go through the same thing with mine.

If that's the only difference you could just buy a hybrid bushing (small ball but larger Od, "shaft tip 15mm D, turret hole 21mm D"). |

Just to help people out with the identification, 6 speed shifters are 3/16 shorter between the big ball and the small ball, and the big ball is bigger on the NB2 shifters. So:
NA 5MT: long shaft, small ball, one slit NB 5MT: long shaft, small ball, two slits NB1 6MT: short shaft, small ball, two slits NB2 6MT: short shaft, large ball, two slits Now we can all consider ourselves experts on shafts, balls, and slits. |
Sorry to dig up an old thread but, does anyone have approximate measurements of the balls? I pulled a shifter from my 6 speed and something doesn't seem right. My ball (I'm a one ball man and I'm off the rodeo...) measures 14.92mm, and the control rod end it goes into, without a bushing fitted, is 15.18mm. Does that sound right?

Sorry about this, I had a noob moment and measured the wrong control rod end. But, between myself and the seller of the transmission I have (who is a stand up guy up in El Monte) we came up with some measurements.
90-05 5 speed shifter with bushing: 18.75mm 99-00 6 speed shifter with bushing: 18.75mm 01-05 6 speed shifter with bushing: 21.5mm I hope my mistake can help someone else out in the future. |
