Default At least its not the trans (yet) noise

Ive been having trans noise since the rebuild of the engine approx 1600 miles ago, thanks to me running it for a short time with low fluid. I went to see Watchmen tonight (great movie), and before we stopped for pizza across the street. About 1/4 mile before we pull in I hear a noise that I at first think is a big truck pulling up new to me, a loud clicking like a diesel engine. I look around and dont see one. I turn down the radio to hear it clearly, and think "oh, its the damn fan under the dash with a piece of trash clicking on the blades". Turn the fan off, still clicking. I realise when pulling in the parking lot its speed related, not gear or engine speed related. Then driveshaft and trans issues pop into my head. We go see the movie and on the way home about where the noise started on the way, it stops. I just happen to look down at the speedo and notice... 0. The goddamn speedo cable has broken yet again. Just put this one on maybe 6-8k miles ago. At least its not the trans, though its probably not long to this world. As long as it waits till I can afford it, Im fine. I was scared my MS and bathroom remodeling would have to wait till I got a 6 speed and 3.6's

At least a cable is only $60 or so, Im not sure how the electronic unit from the NB stacks up in price. Im curious to see where it broke. Only slightly sharp bend it had was right where it comes out of the firewall and curves down behind the head. I may just go without it till I get a 6 speed. Only thing I dont like is not knowing my mileage. At least my chassis will look like it has lower miles than what it has. Im already about 3 or 4k low from the last speedo cable break.

Which reminds me, on a side note, when it broke I was in front of a cop. The last week or so I have been followed by cops 3 times on the way home in the early AM hours, I guess running my tag. Im between insurance policies, my last one expired like a week ago, and I havent gotten my new ID card yet and dont have ink to print a temp from the website. Before now I havent had any trouble with cops in months. Better hurry up with my card or Im going to get pulled over and bitched at. Last time I got stopped I got hassled about my pistol and my CCW, cops (like 4 cars eventually) from a small town like to have something to do I guess. They tried their hardest to find something to bring me in for, but they failed. So Ive been trying to keep a low profile since then. Cops bring me bad luck I guess.

I was pulled over for doing 45 in a 35 on my bike once. No insurance, expired tags, license plate wasn't lit and was hid slightly by my rear tire. Got away without even a warning. Fixed all the problems, but damn, I was lucky.

as long as I've owned my Miata, (6ish years?) I've never had a speedo cable problem. Yes, I'm currently knocking on wood.
