97 M-Edition Torsen

Ok, I'm buying it, since I think my rear end is about to go, just like my clutch. But I'm wondering if I'm going to be a lot slower off the line.

I found one article on line claiming the 97 M has a Type 2 Torsen with 3.6 gear ratio. That sounds a bit crazy to me, I'm pretty sure the M was a 6 speed, but 3.6 sounds nuts. Does anyone have an idea what the actual gear ratio will be. It will be going in my 92 since my 1.6 diff is making new noises.

Since when did the 90-97 ever have a 6 speed? I thought that started in 1999?

I've got a '97M and it does not have a 6 speed or 3.6 torsen

I was pretty sure, but I guess thats a good mistake, as far as the 6 speed. I was hoping the rear was a 3.9, or a 4.1. Again, since I need something anyway I'm going to get it, but it would be best to know one way or another.

-ALL 1990-1993 differentials were 4.30:1 ratio, doesn't matter what options or transmission
-ALL 1994-1997 differentials were 4.10:1 ratio, doesn't matter what options or transmission
-1999-2002, 5-speeds (and autos?) got the 4.30 again and 6-speeds got the 3.909
-2004(?)+ 5-speeds (and autos?) got the 4.30s and 6-speeds started getting 4.10s

The 3.636 was NEVER offered in the US by Mazda as an option on the Miata. All 3.636:1 diffs are either re-geared using gears from other cars/Mazda Motorsports or the diff was imported from Europe or Australia.

Thank you Sir!
