Default Miata Power Plant Frame Brace installation

Hey guys! Would anyone happen to have the install instructions (or a quick how-to) for this unit?

Searched, but a lot of the discussions have been archived by now.

It's probably damn close to self-explanatory, but I hate to get the car on the lift and not be certain.

Thanks in advance - much appreciated!

I'll buy it if you're selling. I forgot all about this brace form 10 years ago, I figured they stopped selling them. I've been tinkering with a way to change the natural frequency of the PPF and well duh this will do that.

So, now they make braces for the braces.

Be skeptical Greg. A light Miata is a fast Miata. Bo gave you some good advice unless there is hard data acquired at a racetrack that says otherwise. I've never seen one of these at a racetrack and 949 doesn't sell it. That says a lot.

Apples/oranges but my PPF is a source of significant NVH, well VH anyway. I'm not sure of any performance value, but may be worth a try to enjoy the car more. Just like power steering damnit. Still working on that one.

How can that be Tim? The PPF doesn't directly contact the chassis, just the transmission and diff. ???

Resonating frequency. You know when you have a PPF out of alignment spec it makes some pretty awful vibrations? Adding more mass can reduce the resonance/vibrations as well.

That said... i've never really found the PPF to be an issue when it comes to NVH, but who knows what's going on with what Tim's done.

I think its cause if the ppf is out of alignment so is the driveshaft and thats where the vibration comes from

Derp. There will always be a vibration/resonance. Other factors besides just alignment determine how bad they are.

There's lots of discussions (pro and con) on this one, ad nauseum... I've driven another MSM before and after the PPFB, and while the difference was subtle, it worked for my purposes.

Thx again to newold_m.

You're welcome I'm in the same boat as well.. Read the pro/con reviews and decided to bite the bullet and got it from the Ebay listing. Agree with you - the difference, while subtle, is noticeable.

Tim, I'd much more appreciate reading a post where you cut the truss section out of one PPF, and weld it to another. Get crackin!

If you were to do something to the PPF, I'd weld in a C channel on the PPF near the trans. One it would box the open side of the C which is what you need to do to really add any strength. Second it would act as a safety hoop if the front joint goes.

Then I'd do similar but bolt-in on the rear section. That way it would still be easy to remove the driveshaft.
