Anyone recognize this 3 pt shock tower brace?

I can get this pretty cheaply, and I know that it came off of a 1.6 NA, but I don't think I've ever seen it before. Anyone recognize it? Worth $55 bucks?

Can't really find a 3 point for any cheaper so I would say go for it.

looks like maybe someone modified a typical one you find for cheap?

Looks like a diy bar to me.
edit: You can do better than that. |
The only thing I don't like about it is that it bolts to the firewall at just a single point, rather than with a plate. That upper lip of the firewall isn't terribly sturdy anyway.

you could always put a plate behind it.

Really? I'm not dropping $300 on a Carbing, but I'd spend $50 on something that works 80% as good.

We were saying (well at least I was...) that you could make something that looks better than that. It looks like he just cut up a pre-bought one, grinded it down to make them seat flush at the firewall, welded it, added a bolt hole, then added a brace to that. Definitely not optimal, but MIGHT work.

I'd rock it. whatever. beats my 2 point one.

I spent money on the Carbing, and then realized I needed other parts more. I will say that pulling the Carbing bar off (after a test fit for buyer) was one of the harder "take offs" I've done. I really really wanted to drill the holes in the firewall and leave it there. It weighs nothing, looks fantastic, fits perfect, clears everything and is proven to work. My car needs some serious cowl reinforcement. That said, if I could get that DIY thing for $50 I'd live with it. I think there is something to be said for solid mounts to the shock towers though, as opposed to a hinge like this. |
