assuming so, but 6 spd ok with 1.6 clutch?

I am sorry that this has probably done to death but I don't spend much time online like I used to. I am assuming that my 1.6 clutch and 1.6 flywheel will be ok with a 6 speed transmission, other than the two bolt starter thing. I am debating replacing my broken 5spd with a 6spd but the car is turbo and my only concern is having to shift into 4th while still coming out of a corner, on a track of course. I can barely not crash as it is.

1.6 clutch will work with a 6 speed fine.

No clue about the shifting part, as I don't know what gears you would normally be in or any other info.

Sorry. I have a 4.10 diff. I have a stock 1.6 with a GT2860 turbo, when I exit a turn in third gear, there is typically a little lag from apex to corner out. 2nd gear is too low and causes me to slide around and really struggle. I guess I am just looking for anecdotal evidence from people who have had the 5th and then 6th speed transmission.

I have 6 speed and would prefer 5 speed for track work. My understanding is that the range was not really extended by adding extra gear, but they just re-distributed RPMs/gears by stuffing an extra one within the same parameters as 5 speed for the most part. Obviously it cruises at somewhat lower RPM in a given gear compared to 5 speed, but the gears are shorter too.

The 6-speed is better on track, even with a turbo. Here's why:

5-speed plus:
-taller 2nd gear ratio (better traction exiting slow corners)
-taller 3rd gear ratio (better traction exiting mid-speed corners)
-same 4th gear ratio
-slightly shorter 5th gear ratio (better pull from 120-140mph)

plus

-granny 1st gear for getting on/off trailer

= OEM 6-speed

You're question is about having to shift out of third.

6 speed has a taller third. So you will have to shift later. Which if I understand your question correctly will help you.

Are you running EBC? I just turned on my EBC at the track and was able to drop 2 shifts. More torque moar lower.

I guess its worth a try. Thank you for the advice everyone. Yes on EBC, although I always end up turning it off to go faster.

Turn it down not off. You gain spool with it.
