I bought a 95 a parts car for it's brakes, motor and diff for my 90.
The rear axle nuts were very corroded, I needed to use a cut off wheel to release them. I figured I'd be able to buy an new outer CV assembly and repair the axle...

I'm having no luck finding outer CV's. Are these replaceable or do i need to buy a pair of used axles?

I think those are sold as one hole piece

I've never seen just the CV. They have always been sold as a whole axle as far as I have seen.

You can likely send it off to The Driveshaft Shop and they can rebuild it but probably cheaper and faster to just rockauto one or find one used. They rarely go bad on even 200K cars.

You can. I have. I swapped my 1.6L stubs with ABS rings onto my 1.8L axles when I did the rear swap. You gotta remove the clip holding the rubber boot, they will pound off; held in with a circlip. Getting them back on the axle is a PITA.

Or you could get new boots with the tie thingies for about 20 bucks... I used a ziptie on a SHO, and it is holding to this day.

(zack morris's phone)

I reused the boots. The pits was fitting the stub end back anti the axle. Getting the circlip into the hole was the tough part

Thanks-
I think I'll give Braineack's trick a shot if I cant find someone selling a pair of complete axles cheap. My 1.6 axles are in fine shape.
