That's probably the cheapest and strongest idea. I don't see through welders eyes so it seemed the gap was too much to get a weld on. Ill just do that then, thanks.
I really need to add welding to my list of skills, take that Napoleon! |
If you dont care about harshness of the shifter, then fill the bitch up with liquid nails... 3 bucks a pop it doesnt get any cheaper.

Gotta wonder about guys taping up their shaft:pitlab:

A couple of years ago I soaked the shift lever in solvent (acetone or lacquer thinner probably) then dug the softened crumbling rubber out with a screwdriver. After drying thoroughly I filled the gap with epoxy. I don't remember or care what kind it was.
It easily added 5 hp. |
Last chance before welding. Poor mans weak welding - JB welding. Check on it Monday am.
|
Looks strong now, I suppose I thought the Gorilla Glue would allow for some similar characteristics of the rubber and allow some give/damping. It didn't fully dry or maybe I should have waited a week. Either way the JB Weld worked and it's now a solid unit. I added NVH but also have a .243% more accurate shifting mechanism because there is no give.
Then there was a bunch of rubbing and polishing and making smooth the balls...... |
