has anyone fabbed up the garage vary brake ducting...
I have the GV front lip on my 1990 and going to figure out how to mount ducting to it so I route the air to my brakes. Its a weird shape...has anyone come up with a good way, short of fabbing something up in fiberglass, to mount the ducting...

Well I am on the search for brakes to go along with this ducting... And for all of the "1.8 brakes and good pads is all you need..." people, you can turn away now.
I am hesitant to go with the Goodwin kit (beautiful kit BTW) due to the stock rear caliper and the light weight front caliper. I checked wilwoods site and upgrading to a heavier front caliper would mean new rotors and bracket for front and rear....Not something I would want to do. It would be easier to start from scratch.
Mostly this is a rambling more so than a question...well no I guess its not. Anyone know of a brake kit that uses a caliper up front that has a larger brake pad than the wilwoods from goodwin and uses a new caliper with more meat for heat out back...short of fabbing something up myself...cuz I am lazy and don't have the time...

Alright, here is the update... **** canned the garage vary lip/brake duct idea and found a used bumper skin, albeit no plastic supports with it. I will have to transfer those over for the track day. I bought the Home depot brick border to install a lip from an old track car. I am going to cut holes in the new(used) bumper cover for the NACA ducts I have sitting around and duct those to the front brakes....
Which BTW will be the wilwood kit for mini's that will be adapted to fit the miata. And out back I will use the monster miata brakes that use the Rx-7 vented calipers on wilwood hats etc.
Well thats the plan anyways....wish me luck. I have 20 days to complete it all...Thats incluing work days...great. anybody in concord area want to lend a hand....Ill provide the beer....

I was a little disappointed with the front pad surface area - it isn't significantly more than stock 1.8 pads. However, the 4 piston Wilwood Forged Dynalite calipers provide for much more confidence inspiring rapid deceleration (although you'll still be outbraked by Porsches).
I put HT10's in all the way around for the first time out. Waaaayy too much rear brake bias! I tuned it out on day 2 with Hawk HP+'s in the rear. I'll do a more detailed write up in Dec. I have 2 more track events this month before the year's done.

Pro - Cheap and effective... amazing brake performance.
Con - Pad choice is noisy and dusty ( Hawk HP+ )
At this price point I can run street and track sets....
My setup....

So I fabbed up a home made air dam. Using the home depot brick thingy method...(again. typing after 16 hour day at work) Brake ducts are in. Not very pretty.
I will post all sorts of Pics on friday..or tomorrow if its only a 12 hr day at work.
Ordering the Mini/Miata wilwood kit on Friday as well. Hopefully it will be here by mid next week so I can put it all together by the track day on the 22nd.

The brakes are on order and being shipped. I need to order bolts, and have a piece machined...

Just ordered the brake lines from FM. I was going to do it from Goodwin, but theirs were almost $100 more...
UPS says the brakes will arrive today (probably in the afternoon so I can't get the parts down to the machine shop). But I will get photos up once they get here and document the install (minus the braided lines because they are on order....)

The kit just arrived...Oh boy oh boy oh boy.

Here is it all in the 15x8 949 wheel...nice fit with lots of extra room. Should have gone with the 6 Pots.
This is the progression of the build. (I had to stop at step two because hubs are at machine shop for machining. Dude said..you don't need these back right away right??? yeah take as long as you want...not..you dipshit. I want them back ASAP...oh well, another hurdle taking time.)

here's my contribution to this thread, which is quickly becoming the 'ultimate' brake setup. big *** rotors, big *** calipers, brake ducts, and this:
Targa Miata
Its Keith's car, but I'm Josh. I gave him a picture of mine mounted there about a year or two ago, and I finally plumbed it this weekend. fairly simple and only about $70 in parts if you already have the proportioning valve. And that includes a $38 double flaring tool, so if you already have that and the proportioning valve (maybe under the hood? tsk tsk) its only about $25 in plumbing.

Oh and P.S. if y'all start bitching about "you can't do that unless you strip your interior", too bad. Its why I say 1.8 brakes are enough, I'm not hauling around about ~400lbs of dead weight that a fresh-from-the-factory '93 miata has.
