Bolt-in diff arm reinforcement plates

We have a neat new product that I wanted to share. If you want to reinforce your differential housing arm in your own garage without a tig welder, this is for you:

$59 for a set, in stock and ready to ship here. We designed these to pair with our PPF delete kit and a BMW trans upgrade, but of course anyone can use them to eliminate the failure point that Mazda engineered into our diff housings.

Special thanks to Greg Peters from the CarPassionChannel for the pre-photoshoot photos. You can watch him perform the simple install in a upcoming video too.

Aluminum or stainless?

cpierr03 08-27-2018 06:19 PM

Awesome!!! Was just thinking about how I should do this when I inevitably go to 3.63 gears.

From K-Miata's Page:

"Our aluminum plates are CNC machined to fit perfectly into the recessed areas on the sides of the arm. "

KMiata 08-27-2018 06:27 PM

Correct, they are aluminum. Also, I realized I uploaded the same picture twice. It will be fixed in 30 seconds so you can see the back side.

David,
As for installation, is it required to have the differential housing off the car to install these reinforcement plates, or can they be installed with the differential still attached to the car? I imagine it would be much easier with the differential removed, but can it be done with the differential housing still on?
Thanks!

You probably could make the holes with a right angle drill but I don't think you'd be able to get the upper bolts in with the diff in place. So even though you need to remove the diff, you don't have to split it open to weld it. So it's still a lot less work.

Any feedback on these? I see they went up in price by $20

Will these work on a MSM?

Is the MSM carrier housing any different? I know the axles are larger and I'm pretty sure it still has a notch for a failure point.

Mudflap 03-04-2020 03:17 PM

I just bought a set for my msm. So in a week or so I can let you know about the fit.

Has anyone out there broken a diff arm with these installed?

Great, I am thinking of ordering a set but not sure they will fit up the same.

It's well documented at Facebook and by YouTube boi Greg Peters that arms broke with these plates on.

He seems really good at breaking stuff in general, also had all sorts of odd drive line issues on that car too so IDK...

The cases are identical, so yes they will fit MSMs. Also had a nice laugh in looking up the part number to confirm; Jim Ellis Mazda charges $1,038.16 for a replacement housing lol

Thank you!

Just installed them on my MSM yesterday. Fits great.

Now I just wonder how it is stronger when I just drilled 2x huge holes in the diff..

Oh and THANKS for the super speedy free shipping!

No drilling required.

Welding in is the better (only in my opinion) way to go, but there are much cheaper kits to do so than K Miata's CNC machined parts.

What about JB Weld? Seriously! No heat introduction issues. I've seen some pretty amazing repairs done with this stuff.

Whadda ya think?

Flame away!
