Boss frog 4cyl Diff Swap

Has anyone tried this setup? I'd love the gearing options this would give with the 8.8 differential. Seems a bit pricey though.http://www.bossfrog.biz/Differential_Swap.html

Are you at the power levels that you're breaking rear ends daily? If not, I'm sure that the stock 1.8 rear end with 3.63, 3.9, 4.1, and 4.3 ratio options should suit you fine. I'm sure your HS guidance counselor told you that it's cool to be different, but damn that's some $$ that could be spent on more useful stuff like suspension if you don't have the power to break miata diffs just by looking at them.

The only people who really need this are people who run drag with high hp cars IMO. Wheel hop is what kills torsens.

Oh, i'm not "really" considering getting one, I'm barely pushing 200whp. Just curious if anyone had tried it. Did not realize there was 3.63 ratio available for the 1.8 rear though? Link?

No linky. I think you can buy them from Mazda or you can score a junkyard 626 or something. Hit up the search feature here and it'll tell you way more than I can. I got a r+p set sitting in my garage waiting for me to install from whatever 80's 626 or whatever it came from.

I've been considering one in the future so I can make better use of a 6 speed. Even with the 3.636 it's not nearly what I want/need.

Of course the fun part is trying to figure out a way to keep the cost down with the Boss Frog pieces vs. building your own, what parts you really need, having axles built instead of paying out the ass for theirs, yatta yatta :hustler:

Go to V8R for the 8.8/CTS setup or Monster Miata with the 7.5. Much better designs from both those companies.

well those would be great. They don't have any way of mounting stock miata transmission without the ppf. but I suppose a mix between the boss frog transmission mount kit and 1 of the other companies differential mount would work.

Contact Bill at Miataroadster and talk to him about it.

Yap. $100 diff from a 94-97 V8 Thunderbird, gears of your choice, $150 labor to install trac lok and gears, two $120 axle/CV's from Factory Five Roadsters and a "bit" of fab work and I have my own all new 8.8 diff setup for about $500. Sell the Torsen and actually be money ahead.
