Can this flywheel be saved?
 

Gents,

I've had this flywheel sitting in the garage for several years. It's the original out of my '99 and has about 110,000 miles on it. You can see the heat stress cracks in the pic. The longest one is north of the dowel pin and slightly to the left. The deepest crack is a couple of inches more to the left in the pic. Should I abandon this one and look for another flywheel?

You should be able to score a decent condition used flywheel for cheap, lots of people upgrade to lightweight FWs.

I have one...or two.

Funny thing is, I don't remember it looking that bad when I took it out...

Anything that is mission critical and in suspect condition I'd say replace if at all possible... Just my 2¢

The way I would approach a situation with a flywheel is by asking myself if I prefer to have feet or consider them a nuisance.

Take this as an opportunity to save some weight and get a lighter flywheel than stock.

I really enjoy the lightweight flywheels with a replaceable friction surface for this reason, a good enough excuse to upgrade no?

Just in case sixshooter's post wasn't clear: No way in hell should you run this flywheel. It may kill or maim you. Recycle it.
