Default TEIN coilover help

What's up guys I recently picked up a set of TEIN SA coils for the low. The only problem is that one of the damping adjustment clickers is broken. I'm aware the part I need is available to buy but it looks like the inner threads of the damping area where the part would go is damaged. The guy I bought them from said it can still be adjusted. I can stick the **** in and spin it, but it no longer clicks. Does anyone know how these mechanisms work? Will I still be able to adjust the damping if the replacement part doesnt fit? Thanks

Dampening is usually adjusted with a spray bottle or something similar. Also a hair dryer.

Squirt with water to increase dampness, use the hair dryer to decrease dampness.

Also, you were probably lied to about being able to adjust them.

Was that a handling/abuse issue, or an internal issue with the coilover itself?
