Clutch Advice

Hey there. This winter I am finally getting around to boosting the Miata. I have a small gt25 from a DSM motor. I will be doing supporting mods and turning up the boost to around 9-12psi. I am going for at least 200-220whp (if not more) and anywhere from 180-200 ft/lb of torque.

I have been doing some reading across this and other forums and I am trying to decide which clutch to go with. I have had my eye on either the ACT HD or Xtreme Kit but I have heard mixed reviews with these either being super heavy and shuddering to being the best clutch people have tried.

I am just looking for some input on what the favorites are on miataturbo. I don't care too much about stiffness or where the clutch engages/disengages. I just want something that can handle some abuse and fun :]

Thanks!

Ebay stage 3 F1 is the only option.

Duh. Everyone knows the clutch is not important at all, especially when you are looking to put down more power.

Just buy the cheapest POS you can find on ebay and don't read a single thread here on mt.net. Also be sure not to search at all, you might find a useful answer.

Buy a spec stage 3

Get a Flyin Miata Level 1 clutch kit. You'll blow the turbo up before you ever exceed the clamping capacity of that clutch.

^^ This should be the only option recommended for a dual use car. We just put one in my car and its awesome. Follow the break-in instructions and it should be fine. Can't go wrong with FM

I just love the useless sarcasm! What a great way to contribute to a thread :]

I appreciate the honest answers though guys. I haven't tried any FM parts yet but this might be a good time to loose my FM virginity :P

No sarcasm in my post. FM1 is good to 318ft/lbs TQ, and there's no way that DSM T25 will make that much power.

XTSS here with no complaints about smoothness, strength, or feel. My dainty little wife has no problems with the clutch.

I had the XTSS in my car before the FM2, the only reason that I recommend the FM over ACT is because they are the same cost, but hold more torque.

I love my FM clutch. I also think, the warmer the clutch gets, the BETTER the FM clutch gets. I love it.

Well I am glad to hear the FM has some good response! Thanks guys :]
