Clutch choice SC 10psi 6 speed
Okay, before i pull the trigger... I'm looking at the FM stage 1 happy meal with a 13.5lb fly. I will be swapping in a 6 speed at the same time. The car is mostly stock at the moment, but will be getting 10 psi coldside reeal soon. I drive it very hard, and autox a few times a year, drag race a few times a year.
Suggestions, thoughts, etc. |
General consensus is that clutch is the bomb. I would however give serious consideration to a light flywheel if you've never driven one. As a DD, there's very little performance gain that I could justify over the pain-in-the-ass of a light-flywheel on the street... even the 13.5lb one.

Skip the LWFW with a coldside. The throttled volume will give you idle issues as-is.
With a dual-TB hotside or a Rotrex, the LWFW is way worth it. I love the 10lb Fidanza in the rental. No issues at all if I had to DD that car. |
Glad I asked, I figured the 13lber would be better than the 9-10lbers, but stock (20lbs?) will be nicer on the street, or racing too?

I run an FM2 clutch/flywheel on the street...love it.

The coldside's got a smaller throttled volume than stock, idle is easier, I know I've owned/tuned most setups (hotside, hotside with dual throttles, coldside - all my car), n/a and tubo'd. The car easiest to get to idle is the coldside SC setup. |
So next question...should I go with the I or II? I don't plan to go more psi with this setup, but I do plan to drive the living hell out of it. I have been known to abuse tires, brakes, and clutches just for fun.

Is your motor built or not? If it is not a built motor then go with the FM1. I highly doubt there are many superchargers out there that put down more torque then the FM1 should be able to handle.

You'll probably love the stage 1, depending on how much "abuse" you really give it.
A 1.6 with forged bottom end at 15psi on a 15g is outside of what they consider the acceptable range for the stage 1. |
I used to have a coldside. They don't make a ton of power. You should be good with just about any upgraded clutch.
I chose the MSM stock clutch. It was very happy with the coldside s/c. |
