Clutch disc recommendation

Finally getting around the turbo Miata project now that my master's program is about done (oh shucks, now I have to find a job or get into a doctoral program...)

So, after a quick two hours at a very relaxed pace of work, the motor (spun bearing? to be replaced with a used motor) and transmission are out. The transmission is separated and the feared to be unknown piece of junk clutch (everything else on the car that the prior owner installed was junk) is exposed to be...

An ACT XT model MZ014X! :)
...with a 6-puck solid hub clutch (bad for street driving) :(
...with a torque capacity of 353 ft/lbs according to ACT's website

If I get 200-250 rwhp out of my car when it is all back together, I think I'll be lucky. As such, the solid disc is not going back in as it is just not suitable for street driving.

I'm thinking that a $40-50 stock Exedy disc with that pressure plate is about right, since that pressure plate plus the ACT "MM" disc = 277 ft/lbs, which should be adequate for my goals.

So, any suggestions to the contrary before I place and order so I can get it back on the road/track? :)

Regards,
--Ashraf

Either the 949 twin disk ($$$ but AWESOME in John's car) or the FM clutch. I've driven both and can't wait to get my metal clutch out to swap in either the baller 949 clutch, or the FM clutch which is more likely. It engages smoothly, the pedal feels almost stock, and its easy on transmissions.

Nice user name, took a while to come around.lol.

I don't see why an exedy disc wouldn't work for your goals. I'm researching clutches right now too, hopefully getting one from disturbedfan#.

I thought it was you, and when I read that his sister was about to graduate it brought a tear to my eye.

You glossed over the broke grad student part of my introduction. I am not spending $1000 on a clutch on a project that started out as a ~$2000 car! ;)

hustler, I appreciate the reminder about 949 as a vendor, though. Apparently they have a clutch combo for $150 (http://949racing.com/F1-clutch-miata-stage-1-1.aspx) which I will remember in case I need an entire clutch assembly but I think I'll just stick with replacing the disc. The pressure plate probably only has 10,000 miles on it.

Looking at this or this

If the parameters in the URL are correct, then the cheaper one weighs a little less = good for spinning the RPMS quicker... :)

I don't have either, you'll have to settle for my mom:
