Clutch not releasing
 

I disassembled my engine last weekend to do my rebuild and there wasn't any reason to replace my clutch/pressure plate so I just stuck them back on and shoved the engine/trans back in place. For some odd reason my clutch wouldn't release. I took apart my master/slave cylinders and found out they were clogged and not getting any pressure so I replaced them today along with a newly built steel braided clutch line. For some reason I have the same problem.

I couldn't think of any reason why the clutch wouldn't release, my only other thought was putting the clutch disk in backwards. I know I didn't put the disc in backwards, as it would not have been flush and wouldn't even bolt up, so I figured I would just adjust the rod that the pedal pushes to work the master cylinder. Adjusting this rod fixed the problem, my clutch now releases like it should and I have no problems (i hope)

Has anyone had this problem before? I really don't see it being possible that this jam nut came loose and moved the rod between my pedal and master cylinder, but adjusting it fixed my problem. Could there be any other reason why my clutch wouldn't release? I mean the only thing I changed out was engine internals, never messed with the trans besides installing the new master/slave tonight. Anyone have any thoughts?

How easily did the engine and transmission mate? I once had to remate the two. For some reason they didn't mate properly and it made the clutch act like a dead man's pedal.

To me it felt like they mated quite easily. Held up the trans, slighty turned side to side so the splines would line up and they slid right in. Trans bolts weren't a pain to screw in either. But I thought about that, is it possible to re mate the two without dropping the trans and pulling the driveshaft? Don't want to lose my new fluids at $15 a quart lol

Get a new bucket to drain trans fluid in so you can reuse it or get an old miata driveshaft and cut off the part that goes into the transmission so you can drop it without fluid coming out.

I may end up pulling it tonight just to be safe, cause it is strange to me that I could adjust that rod and it finally starts releasing. I figured it would have been the same since I am using the same clutch and everything.

I have had to adjust the rod a bit on all my aftermarket clutches. I know my FM clutch needed it to be adjusted a good bit. I will admit it is strange that you had to adjust it on a clutch that you already had it in the car. I would check and make sure the clutch disk is in the right direction.

Thats what I thought, but wouldn't it be wobbly and not be flush if it was in backwards? I am pretty positive its in right because my clutch was bleh before, maybe the master/slave were so junk when i removed them the first time it caused the play in the pedal?
