Clutch Slave Cylinder - NA vs NB
 

Is the clutch slave cylinder on the NB longer than the 1.6L NAs? I am using a 5 speed, clutch, engine, etc. from a 2004 NB and the clutch slave cylinder from my early 90 NA, but it engages really low and doesn't seem to fully disengage.

I'm thinking probably the clutch slave cylinder is just not pushing it long enough, because the clutch worked fine in the original chassis. I noticed the NA and NB slave cylinders are different part numbers, but wanted to check if that was probably the problem.

The clutch pedal adjustment was the first thing I did. It got it from only halfway disengaging to about 90% disengaging when I reached the end of adjustment. Because the adjustment can't get it to the normal band, I think something else must be wrong too. There aren't any leaks, and the clutch master/slave worked perfectly fine with my old 1.6L.

The clutch is an ACT Xtreme clutch and aluminum flywheel, but I didn't check with the previous owner whether it was the 6-puck or disk style. It feels like a disk style one, just not getting fully disengaged.

Did you bleed the clutch?

Verify that the clutch master cylinder isn't failing and losing pressure. Have someone watch the slave cylinder while your foot is on the clutch. For some reason, after I did a clutch job both my slave and master cylinder crapped out on me. The slave cylinder piston moved initially, but lost pressure fast due to the leaky master cylinder.

Only if you're too stupid to adjust them properly.

OP, the slaves are identical AFAIK.

+1 this happened to me.

When I picked up my miata, the engagement point used to be reallll close to the floor

Then all of sudden one night, slave cyclinder crapped out on me...

However, after replacing, the engagement point still stayed pretty low and now all of the sudden TOB / Pilot shitted out on me.

Learned my lesson pretty well.. adjust the pedal properly before things go South!

What is wrong with the South? 10 more miles and I am standing in the Gulf. Send everything ya have!!
