Clutch... Wat Do?

FM2 Clutch is toast and I need something soon so I can put the car back together cause I just picked up my refreshed head. I wish I could resurface the PP and get a new friction disk as some have (miataturd?), but I've been told not to do that.

Don't have the funds for a 949 twin disk so the options are FM2 (353 ftlb) take two or 949 sport sprung puck (340ftlb). What power/tq at the wheels can I reasonably expect from either of them? Goal is to dyno at 330-350 rwhp and then turn down to 300ish for longevity.

Re the FM2 Clutch:
I talked to FM and they said that it looks like the clutch was slipping and died a quick death due to the heat. They made me test the slave to see if it was adjusted correctly and they appeared satisfied with the results (i.e. it wasn't grossly out of their recommended adjustment).
Note: Clutch didn't feel like it was slipping on the street. May have slipped on the dyno for a couple of runs before I sat in the trunk to put some weight on the rear wheels. I thought it was wheelspin on the dyno and not clutch slippage. Only issue I ever noticed with the clutch was some shuddering and grabby-ness with cold starts.

Here's what things look like.

TLDR; what sub $500 clutch for ~330-350 rwhp dyno queen that's tuned for about 300ish on the street. Current considerations are FM2 and 949 sprung puck.

Hey Rish, you do realize that pilot bearing is not properly installed right? And it's a crappy shielded one instead of a 2rs.

Just sayin'.

I love my FM2 but maybe I got lucky.

I'd highly recommend an ACT product, they're the only ones I trust with 300+hp, aside from the much more expensive twin disc, which is really like bringing a nuclear missile to a knife fight.

Get the extreme duty pressure plate with an organic full face disc for a heavy pedal and great drivability.

Or get the heavy duty pressure plate with a ceramic 6-puck for a lighter pedal and less drivability:

Or say fuck it and get the extreme pressure plate and the fuck off 6-disc for crazy clamping power:

there's a lot of ways to achieve 350hp, but in my experience, you'll be around 300ft/lbs, so Supermiata's site is basically telling you you'll be at the absolute limit with their organic disc. If you don't want one of the ACT choices, their sprung puck would be a great choice as well.

Wait, so... "clutch is toast" but "didn't feel like it was slipping" ??

It looks far better than my FM1 did when i trashed it started to fail at my power levels.

Your experience with the FM2 was almost my exact experience with the FM1 clutch. I have only been hearing more and more people having issues with them slipping too. Can't comment on power but the supermiata sprung puck clutch is just as easy if not easier to drive than my FM1 clutch was.

So there you have it. Between Sixshooter and Curly the go-to is either one of the ACT's or SuperMiata Sprung Puck. Done and Done.

Yep, this is how it should be.

I have the ACT clutch as well, couldn't be happier with the pedal feel.
