Determining Braking Compound

Running XP10/XP8 on Wilwood fronts and NA8 rears.

In hot weather, I notice that my braking action gets kind of rough (vibrations) and my transfer layers look splotchy. Recently, it's cooled down substantially and my braking action has really smoothed out with textbook transfer layers.

I think this means I should be stepping up the brake compound in hot weather, maybe go to XP12/XP10. Does that make sense? Anything else I should do to confirm (like temperature-sensitive paint)? What do you guys do to determine the right compound?

Does CarboTech have a chart like this:
Compound Graph | Hawk Performance

or this:

Running at NOLA this weekend with DTC-60's up front. On Sunday when it was around 46 degrees, I taped up the brake ducts to try to get more heat in the brakes. I didn't really feel like I was getting as much out of the brakes as I wanted. I was thinking about moving to Hawk Blues or DTC-30's all around for cold weather.

Hawk has a new DTC 50 pad as well.

Cobalt

Naturally aspirated miatas I'd do cobalt xr3/xr5 stagger, go up from there depending on power level/tire level

I like my Cobalt XR3.

If you're happy with everything else about the 10/8 combo, maybe just add (or up-size) brake ducts?

I was never a fan of the 10s when I ran CTs. Always felt spongier than the 8s or 12s. I ran for a while on either 12/10 or 12/12 and was happy with that combo.

Felt the same, something seems wrong with 10's in front. 12 are way better. really like 12/10 with TSE 11.75 and sport rears...

But many good feebdack from other MiataCupChallenge for Hawk DTC-60, maybe I'll try those next.

What are you running now Sav?

hornetball 12-01-2015 05:03 PM

I think I'll switch to the 12s. I've got one more set of 10s to burn through.
