Default Diff weight

Who has a diff assembly from a 1.8 out of the car and can weigh it for me? I'm doing a getrag swap and forgot to weigh my diff before I sold it. This getrag diff is heavy!

Shipping one later today or early tomorrow. I'll let you know this afternoon. Just the guts, or the housing and all?

Edit: The last time I weighed one with the housing, it was ~75 lbs. I'll give you something more specific in a bit.

Diff and housing are 60.8 lbs. Axles add another 25.6.

They both weigh the same right around 68lbs.

It was just posted above that the mazda unit weighs 60.8lbs.

I won't be able to weigh the getrag until tomorrow and it will just be the diff. Still waiting on the mounting bracket and axles from v8roadsters. I'll post the diff weight tomorrow and then an update when I can do a full comparison.

If you wanted to figure out the weight of the stock internals, I have a housing I can weigh.

MSM Diff = 67.8lbs with out bolts in the front

Getrag Diff = 67.6lbs with 6 long bolts and the rubber piece

My shipping scale may not be super accurate, but they're almost the exact same weight.

The entire Getrag swap diff(67.6), level 1 axles(35), drive shaft(11.6), mount(11) weighs ~125lbs.

A complete MSM kit diff(67.8), axles(27.6), drive shaft(11.8) weights around ~107lbs.

So the entire swap add 18lbs.

Mine has been done since last week. I'll be posting up a review fairly soon.

Nice! I can live with 18lbs. Looks like I need to source another part. I don't have that piece that goes between the pinion flange and the driveshaft. Didn't came with my diff.

You're in luck sir!

You don't need it! =P

Haha. Seriously, like you said, it's an isolator that's used with the cadillac setup, but isn't used on our kit. I think it'd been nice for them to have designed the kit to use it, but I believe since there is a yoke on the drive shaft, it's not needed.

Regardless it feels good. The only thing I'm still getting used to is the sound of everything. I think it's the polly diff bushings in the diff.

I beat on it pretty hard today at AutoX in Qualcomm stadium parking lot which is falling apart and all is still good.

Yeah, probably not gonna notice the sound here. .
Shawndell is putting 95a bushings in mine at my request. He wasn't wanting to, but when I described the car to him and told him I'm running solid aluminum motormounts, he agreed.

+ 18 lbs in the rear where you need the weight (if anywhere) is not bad at all

Is that 60lb miata diff an open diff per chance? And open is going to weight noticeably less than a torsen.

What LSD unit is in the getrag?

Leafy, yes, the diff I weighed was open out of a 99. Confirmed by the scale at UPS.

Is it a salisbury with ramps or like a posi type that only applies a set amount of friction force?

Posi type I'm pretty sure. Didn't even research it all that well to be honest. Correct gearing was more of a concern at the moment. I'm sure it's not gonna feel like the Giken did.
