Front hub repack issues

I ordered some hubs from Detroit axle to repack. I removed everything per guidance on this forum. The Detroit axle hubs are machined differntly internally. The inner races have a groove cut into then. The plastic bearing retainers have tabs that lock the retainers into the race groove. Disassembling the hubs results in the tabs breaking off.

The factory inner race race has a bit of a taper, almost like an interference fit, no groove or tabs etc.

My question is can the hub I describe be repacked successfully without the tabs holding the race? Also, unlike the OEM seal which came out fine the DA SEAL bent to shit. Can I install another seal and if so where can they be sourced?

Hope this all all makes sense.

Thanks

Thanks

About a year ago we looked really hard for the seal, no one has ever been able to find it separately. That includes measuring it and trying to find it in the master Timken, national and skf catalogs. Good luck with that.

Broken cage tabs shouldn't hurt anything, they're probably just there for assy purposes on an automated assy line. As long as the cage itself is intact and keeping the balls separated, its should be fine.

Good to know about the cage tabs. Thank you. I’ll see if DA can send a Seal. If not, it was at least a $24 learning experience :)

Called DA and they don’t have the seal available. Oh well I guess.
