Has anyone used these?
Does anyone know anything about this kit. Megan Racing Coilover Damper Kit Street Series Mazda Miata MX5 1989-1997 MR-CDK-MMX590
Is it too harse for Street use? The spring rates are higher than the basic Teins. And are they any good? |
a bunch of people use megan racing coilovers on rsx's and subaru's with great results. I've driven in both cars with those coilovers and they are great for the street. dont know if they're just as good for miata though, but dont see why not
|
My Subaru Legacy came with them and they're not bad. The main nut on the front left has backed off a bit twice now, but that's a quick fix with an impact wrench.
|
+2 on how they felt on a subie ... does not mean they will be good on a miata necessarily
|
Thanks for the input. I was going to take the plung. But I got a good deal on some new in box Tokico Illumina's! I hope my car stops the squeaks. LOL
These are suposed to adjust pretty soft. The roads are rough downtown and will jar your car loose. |
How much did you get the Illuminas for, and from where?

Ebay, they suposed to be new in box and unused. I got the for $342.00 shipped. They some posted for buy now For 458 shipped. They also have a deal on Koni sports for $497 puls shipping. |
I think Goodwin has the Konis for just a little more, and worth the warranty/returnability.
I ask as I used to see a lot of $350 Illumina sets on eBay, and now the cheapest are all $75-100 more. |
I have no personal experience with them but a buddy of mine has a WRX and as he said the coilovers "froze". Basically the threads either rusted or corroded or something, and he can't unlock them so he is stuck at his ride height.
I've also heard mixed things about Megan products as a whole, to me they are that eBay company that has half-decent stuff, but I never settle for half decent. I do however have experience with Tokico on my previous car (01 Civic) and they were great pieces. Are you going to use stock springs with these? |

The stories are always a friend of a friend had them and they sucked, they blew out his rear end and his blinker fluid kept leaking...Or I put them on my stock 180k blown and bent shocks and it rides like crap... I'm just sharing his experience, I don't understand why you are getting upset. Do you work for Megan? Are you sponsored by Megan? If not, I don't understand why your panties are bunched up. Don't think that just because I'm new to the site that I'm new to cars  |
My experience, I had a set on a track only nissan. They took an absolute pounding, rally levels of abuse, and still worked great.
Though for the money, on a miata, I think there are far better options. |

Megan has a reputation among the Honda/Acura crowd for imitating a lot of the popular TEIN, Buddy Club, and various other manufacturers, but they do it with much success and usually the end-user is happy with their products. I had those Megan coilovers and anyone correct me if im wrong I believe those are intended to be an alternative to the Super Street damper kit offered by Tein.
