Help me find brake fluid leak?
3 Attachment(s)
After having a rear caliper seize on me, I replaced my calipers around 3-4 months ago. During this time I began to notice my brake reservoir was slowly showing a loss of fluid, so I went around and made sure all my bleeder valves were snug.
Check. The leak continued and upon taking my wheels off yesterday to paint them, this is what the inside of my right rear wheel looked like: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1372425396 Apparently, the fluid is dripping and as my wheel spins around it it's dripping on peeling my paint off. Right before mounting these wheels and new tires, the Daisy right rear wheel was losing air pressure and when I removed it, the inside of the tire had a sticky "spray" coming from inside of the tire. Thought it was odd, but dismissed it as a bad tire. So, looks like this leak has been going on longer than expected. Here's what the area looks like upon further inspection. Yes, that bolt has been loosened to examine it, then I got a picture. All bolts were snug, but you can kinda see where it's leaking. Do I need to return this caliper, or is there a way to fix it? https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1372425396 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1372425396 |
Pretty sure it's just the piston seal. You can just start to see some moisture out from the dust boot. Poke the dust boot a bit, I bet you'll see some more fluid come out.

Yes, you need to return it to the store, it shouldn't be working, but that's the price you pay. My guess is they rehoned the bore in their "re-manufacturing" process, and went a little big or something. Either way, there's no way that should be happening to a new caliper.
