How high of spring rate will an off the shelf Bilstein sport shock handle?

Is there a spring rate front/back that you would recommend as a baseline for a roadcourse?

can the higher rates be used when you pair them with the Bilstiens. The reason that I am even considering this, is that my race buget is currently $tapped out$ and I just need to get the car on the track this year.

Also, when I spoke to Ramone at Bilstein West, I was told that the Spec Miata bilstien actually used the same valving as the off the shelf Bilstein HD's. I'm still having trouble believing this, but that's what he said. If a Spec Miata can run 700# springs on them, then I'll be fine for awhile. But, is this really true?

Like I said, thanks for the help. I'm pulling to the racetrack as we speak, scales and alignment tools in hand!

I was talking about what the valving can handle front and rear. 375/225 will be safe on non-revalved Bilsteins. Currently I'm running 550/400 on my revalved set with RB hollow front bar (car is NB, NA will need different rates.)

Thank You for your response Urban. I figured that it was a pipe dream to think that the oem valving could control a Spec Miata spring rate. Bilstien West must have misunderstood me; or, vis-versa. I'll just have to stick with my 400/275's for now... and maybe keep the car a little higher so it doesn't bottom on the stops excessively.

Andrew: btw: UPS just delivered my Trackspeed brake cooling ducts. Props to you, they look like high quality pieces! One more project for this weekend :).

I'd stay under 400lb on the front springs if you plan to street it because it will liquefy your insides.

I have 600/400 on my daily and although it drifts nicely, I'd still track it with there rates.
