How to remove poly bushing from control arm
Hello All,
After pressing in new poly control arm bushing I found that my passenger front lower control arm is bent. I am getting a used good control arm tomorrow. I am wondering if anyone has pointers on how to remove the poly bushing without damaging them? Thanks, Raj |
If you have a big pair of robo-grip pliers, or something similar, you should be able to twist the bearings and work them out. Put the control arm in a vise or otherwise hold it steady. Use something to cushion the jaws of the pliers, I had a pair that came with rubber covers, or use one of those rubber/silicone pad things you use to open jars with.
Basically anything you can do to put force on them without shredding them. You can probably drive the center metal bearings out, this should make the poly part easy to remove. |
I pushed the metal sleeve out with a pair of big clamps and a appropriate sized socket. Then a big screwdriver or punch, go through one bushing to the back of the other and push while shifting the pressure around the bushing to work around it. Then used body weight and the handle of a hammer to push out the other bushing.

Thanks Guys. I will try it tomorrow.
