Ill be easy once only.

http://miataturbo.wikidot.com/differential should answer your questions.

Please actually make an effort when creating your post. Especially if you are going to ask a question that is easily found.

Yea we know, you are too busy to do that, and we are all assholes.

It's really not that hard, and will make your life easier.

Also it would be a good idea to make an intro thread and put your location in your profile.

WTF? The Miataturbo wiki differential page is loaded with junk info.

brb imma fix it.

e: there I fixed it.

-Whole bunch of the gear ratios found on various NBs were wrong
-You [b]cannot[b] put a Miata pinion in an Rx7 housing or vice versa - they are totally different
-No discussion of the MSM diff

Why thank you. Which reminds me, I need to find some 3.636 gears...

I'm looking at doing this, but doing some searching I'm not sure how far I should go with the rebuild of the actual rx7 clutch diff, I found this:

You may want to refresh the internal clutches in the RX-7 LSD as well. New axel seals are a good thing as well.
If you need new parts for the LSD these numbers may still be good;
RX-7 Differential Part Numbers
Snap rings M005-27-421
Friction Plates M020-27-258
Thick washer M020-27-257
Thin washer M020-27-256
Case seals MA02-27-238A
Bearings 0221-27-350
The conversion is within the capabilities of a backyard mechanic and should take an afternoon to perform.

But that get's pretty pricey, is all that really necessary? Coke can shims? Preload?

Adding all that up, I could just pick up a torsen for the same money or cheaper.

You could take the diff apart and inspect it first. I mean its a clutch type, so it will wear just like your transmission clutch. Or find one with low miles.

Just PM the man you quoted, and ask about 3.6's

I just sold a non turbo diff I was going to put in 1.8 housing and use on a 91.

I didn't want to start another thread, so just wanted more information on this diff,

I know I can use the LSD out of this unit. But wondering if anyone can confirm this aluminium housing would also fits Miata, the seller doesn't know if it's Turbo or Non-Turbo.

If it's a turbo unit, you can't use the LSD. If it's a non-turbo unit, you can use the LSD and the rear aluminum housing.

Just FYI, the LSD units are garbage unless you are drag racing and you can just preload the crap out of it. You cannot run enough preload to lock the diff up under power without locking it up under decel as well, and if you're going to do that you may as well just run a spool or a welded diff.

JDMPalace 01-01-2012 11:23 PM

Thanks for the info, Well not going to take the chance on this one then.

I already picked up a 3.9 torsion. Bbut thinking about selling it as a complete diff, and install my 3.6 RP and clutch LSD in my open diff. But I am not sure if I should go with after market or RX7 unit.

i dont see why a lot more people go t2. its cheap! (usually $200-350 for the whole assembly and axles). and to my understanding all you need to do is weld a mount for the long pinion on your subframe and get your hubs re-broached to fit the tii axles, but other than that your good to smash on it! fc guys use the tii driveline (trans and diff) to pretty high hp numbers with their rotard motors. the fact that the s4 diff is a rebuildable clutch type and mazdatrix sells thicker, and OEM sized clutch plate is a plus too. a nice cheaper solution versus buying a tomei one etc

i already got a t2 trans, just need to make the adapter plate and get my rear end.:yippee:

edit:
i suppose the only bad thing i could think of the t2 diff is i cant find any other R&P's other than the stock 4.1..

96miata 10-13-2013 03:35 AM

Does anyone know if you need the 2 piece shafts to run the rx7 diff? Or can i use the later one piece shafts
