Jackhammer noise from transmission when clutch engaged

Bit stumped with this sound. Tried searching for posts and on youtube, can't find anything with a similar noise. It seems to be opposite of a TO or pilot bearing. Maybe input shaft bearing? All posts seem to suggest these incredibly rare though. 30k miles on an FM2 clutch.

Noise only occurs when the clutch is engaged / at the top, including in neutral. The noise goes away pretty quickly if I press the clutch down. This started happening instantaneously not gradually.

Any ideas?

I think someone else on here had a similar noise. It turned out to be loose flywheel bolts.

The best bet is going to be pulling the trans off and inspecting it. If I were you I'd go ahead and have a pilot and throwout bearing in hand. They are cheap and it will be easy to replace.

Thanks for the tip. Googling that seems to point to a similar noise. I'll drop the trans this weekend and take a look!
