Now I'm getting a new sound. Doesn't sound harmful just weird.

Not sure if it was already there and I just haven't noticed till now. But it sounds like a very loud cricket. When at a stop you can hear it. Cricket noises. Whenever i push the clutch in, it goes away. Accelerating doesn't really get rid of the sound, but the engine noise and etc pretty much drowns it out. It's mainly when your at a stop or rolling is when you can really hear it.

Anyone experience this sound before? Angry crickets

Your release bearing is angry.
Either the release bearing needs to be replaced, or you need to adjust your clutch pedal correctly, with just enough slack in it, so the slave piston is not blocking the passage between the cylinder and reservoir at rest.

Either case, sounds like a new release bearing is in your future.

Throwout bearing. Also try globbing a bunch of grease on your clutch fork where the slave contacts it.

Bearing should be good, everything is pretty much new on the drive train. Probably 1k miles on it.

But ill try the grease. If that doesn't fix it. Oh well. Not about to take the trans off any time soon. Maybe adjust the clutch pedal too.

I bet the grease will fix it. Also do some donuts that'll fix it.

haha that's probably what caused it. Been abusing the car since I got it built/tuned.

side question. I notice that when I'm really on it in 2nd gear. When I go for third, where I assume third is, is actually 5th.

Now I know that with high HP it'll cause the engine to move a lot more. But the thing is. I'm running innovates 75A engine mounts, and I'm still having slight issues with the 2nd to 3rd shift underload. If I just give the car about half a second rather then trying to bang it into the next gear, it'll settle and I can easily put it into 3rd. Other gears 3-4-5 shifts smoothly underload. I don't even bother flooring it in 1st in a 300~hp Miata :/

Is this normal with this much HP, even with stiff mounts?

Edit: Also I have no traction in 2nd, so its just wheel spin into third.

Diff mounts are worn, replace those and I bet it shifts easier. Also 3rd gear will always be hard to find under power with a Miata but you'll get used to it. Yea traction with 300whp can be difficult haha

That's what I was hoping. Thankfully I have some stiff bushing and kmiatas diff bracing sitting around, just waiting until I'm not lazy and drop the diff

Think you're right on the money. If I just very lightly press on the clutch pedal. The sound goes away immediately

Yea you would think it's a dry throwout bearing but I've fixed my chirp by just greasing the fork and the slave contact point. Lmk if it fixes it
