Mazdaspeed Turbo rear caliper vs. Sport Brake?
Anybody know what is different about the Mazdaspeed rear calipers from the hard/sport susp rear calipers? looking at part numbers on mazdamotorsports.com I came up with this.
Brackets: right Normal Susp NA75-26-28X Hard Susp Sport Susp NA67-26-28X W/Turbo N115-26-28X Caliper: right Normal Susp NA75-26-61X Hard Susp Sport Susp NA67-26-61X W/Turbo N115-26-61X Pads: Normal Susp NY6-26-48Z Hard Susp Sport Susp NY7-26-48Z W/Turbo NY7-26-48Z What I believe to be true 1) The mazda speed turbo and the hard/sport susp both use the same rotor and pads. 2) The Mazda Speed Turbo and hard/sport susp calipers both have 1-3/8” pistons where the Normal susp calipers have 1-1/4” pistons 3) Verified for myself that the Hard Susp/Sport Susp calipers fit on any of the earlier brackets including 1.6l brackets. So you can get more rear bias by changing just the caliper. Looks also like the caliper body has more stiffening ribs in it. The questions that remain 1) What is different about the Mazdaspeed Turbo calipers and brackets that warrant the different part numbers? 2) Do the Mazdaspeed Turbo calipers fit on ealyer brackets like the Hard/Sport susp calipers do? The MSM brakes have a silver finish. That's the only difference I've been able to find.

I've compared sport rears to my sister's MSM and saw no difference.

The backing plates for the pads are slightly different per the FMSI shapes. The pads are interchangeable though, according to pad suppliers.

I used sport pads on my MSM if that helps. Didn't all MSM's come with ABS? Would that make a difference? Just as a personal opinion, everything on the MSM is bigger in the rear axels, diff, etc.

Wow, something useful for a change. Thanks.
I think the answer really is that Silver paint is the only difference. Bob |
I have some HAWK racing pads (DTC-60) for a 2001 to 2003 mx5 if anyone wants them.
They're brand new in the box. I bought the wrong ones :$. I have a 2004 model SE and they don't fit. $200 for the set. |
