Miata 6 Speed Knocking Sound
I am in the beginning, preparatory stages of my turbo build. Today I finished installing a SuperMiata Sport organic clutch and a 6 speed I picked up used about a year and a half ago. On my first testdrive outside of my neighborhood my buddy and I noticed that this transmission seemed a bit noisier than the 5 speed that came out of the car. By the time we got it back to the house, it was making a knocking sound in neutral and I believe when moving in gear. Not when the clutch is pressed in though / not engaged. I should also mention that it shifted great.
A couple quick Google searches leads me to believe that I probably have a gear with a chipped tooth. Before I go pulling this transmission (or paying someone to do so, ugh im tired after that job :sad2:) I wanted to run it by the internet and see if you have any other ideas. Here is a video of the sound: Thanks in advance! |
I started up the car this morning to try and trouble shoot some more. Started the car, let the clutch out and no noise! :dunno: I took if for a nice long drive and other than some bearing noise, the knocking never came back. Currently, I have 75w-80 in it. Im going to try to drain and flush it out with the remaining 75w-80 and switch it over to 75w-90 later in the week to try and combat some of the bearing noise.
