NA/NB shock stroke length?

I have been searching all around and I can find shock body length data and ride height measurements, but I cannot find stroke length data.

Has anyone come across any for stock shocks or aftermarket ones? I am trying to find the longest stroke length I can to figure out if a future project is viable. Of most interest is stock NB1 shocks, since I have those on the car at the moment (need to get a spring compressor before I can meausre for myself though).

If not, I will start collecting all the cheap used/blown shocks.I can get my hands on and start measuring.

I think these are stock replacement :)

Sweet. That's at least one data point. I will have to compare that to a set of NB stock ones when I get time to measure.

Thanks a ton! I will compile all the data I gather into a google doc or something so it is more easilly accesable.

Do the Xida (xidas? What's plural?) Have more stroke length than the stockers?

I need to go scower the blistien coil over thread next. I am sure there is data on the NB billies in there.

My end goal is to try and find how much suspension travel one can get out of budget miata parts without having to go for the Paco long arm kit. I have the 3" lift on the way, but that just gives stock travel higher height, so I eventually want to ditch that ib favor of longer springs and top hat spacers or something. I will be taking measurements off my NA6 and NB1 with various wheels and tires I have arround once I get some time as well.

NA/NB Xida XL/GS do not have more stroke than OEM. You wouldn't want that anyway.

I figured as much, but good to confirm. Still in love with the gen 2 Xidas (I think they are the races now?) On my NA. Best purchase ever.

Finally getting around to running the numbers on this. It looks like I can reasonably get a 1.5" lift in the front and 2" in the rear using just springs.

Though this limits my droop travel to the same, with 2" droop in the rear and 1.5" front. This gives about 5.1" bump in the rear, and 5.3" bump in the front. Excluding bump stops.

Looking like 14" long springs, in 175f/125r will get the job done, though I need to measure if I can get them in between the top hat and the spring mount. Need a 10" preload length in the front and 9.2" preloaded length in the rear. Gonna run the numbers again later with softer springs just to see how long I would need to go.

What is the minimum amount of bump travel I want to shoot for for highway use and light offroading? (dirt roads snd such through the woods, not really rock crawling).

While I am planning on staying with stock shocks for now and seeing just what I can get out of them, my eventual goal was extended travel within the limits of the stock suspension, along with softer springs and a raised ride height.

As is the perpetual truth with miatas, if you can dream it, someone has done it, and there is likely a kit. Turns out Paco already did this. Good to know all my ideas were on the right track!

I was planning on doing circle track coil over shocks and custom top hats very similar to that. It's a log way off due to budget and time. Seems I was heading the right way. 17" hub to fender with 1.5" of droop below that. This also gives me an idea how much droop I should be looking for, and that there isn't a ton more wheel travel before I run into issues with the ball joints and CVs. They got 8.5", stock seems to be around 6 in the front and 7 in the rear on my NB with the stock shocks.
