NC 6-speed vs NB 6-speed?
I have been looking on the site for the past half hour and because NC is such a short search string I have had a hard time finding any info about the differences between the NB and NC 6-speeds. I imagine that the bellhousing is different between the two but is there any parts commonality between the two?
I know that the power capability of the NB transmission has been found to be somewhere in the realm of 350-400hp depending on driving style and use (road vs track). Have we found the limits of the NC trans yet if it is indeed different internally? |
I believe the NC 6 speeds had some shifter fork problems that got covered under warranties. And I believe that the NC 6-speed is the asisn AZ6 like the miata and the rx8 6-speed with a different bell housing.

It took me 90 seconds on GIS to disprove this. NC 6-speed is a completely different box.

Mainly the reason I ask is that Zach Bowman of Road and Track (formerly of Autoblog and "Racing the Rock) is doing a build called "Project Ugly Horse" which puts a 2.0 ecoboost motor into a fox body mustang. He in a recent episode of "Autoblog Podcast" was thinking out loud about his transmission options. He was weighing a T5 with a special bellhousing or an NC Miata 6-speed. Based on the power goals and the recent transmission threads I was trying to help him by digging up a little bit of data regarding the longevity of the NC 6-speed in a 2800lb'ish 280hp Mustang. I was thinking that if the NC miata trans could survive the gearing might be better for this lightweight applicaiton.
So now you know why I ask. |
