NC Xidas are here
“It’s about time dammit” https://supermiata.com/images/produc...ida_1024_4.jpg The long wait is over. In stock and available to ship now. Xida Reviews NCX are offered in two variants, same exact shock and valving for both. Both options ship fully assembled with our BCM (billet coaxial mounts). 3 year warranty. Front and rear shock boots included. As with all Xidas, the single damping adjustment affects both rebound and compression in a carefully staged, non-linear slope that is unique front and rear. Touring 280/224 (5/4kg) Swift springs with helpers Race 616/392 (11/7kg) Swift springs with helpers. Race rear employ a triple spring set up. You have questions, we have answers The product page has a ton of info, including basic set up, sway bars options, etc. https://supermiata.com/NC-xida-coilover-miata-MX5.aspx https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...8000db749d.jpg Xida rear shock length is about 20mm shorter than OEM. That gives them about 23mm more wheel bump travel than OEM. So if you lower your car 20mm, you will still have the same bump travel as OEM. Achieving this target while retaining the damping profile, adjustment range and low NVH was largely why it took so darn long to get them ready for production. Its eye opening to be able to drive around 1” below stock, hit a steep driveway at 20mph angled at 45°, catch a little air and not bottom the suspension or tires. And that’s on Touring springs. While we don’t recommend doing that, it’s one of the basic tests we do during development and is just a small corner of their performance envelope. Ride heights in this composite image, from top to bottom: Max bump is about 63mm pinch weld Min recommended ride height is 125~130mm Max recommended ride height is 165, shown in this photo. Although they'll adjust as high as 180mm if you want to rallycross or something. Max droop shown here is around 215~230mm Yes kids, that's 6.5" of functional wheel travel At one inch lower than OEM, you still have almost 3" of bump travel The days of smashing your kidneys over every little bump are over https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...fce09cba54.jpg |
Another angle without the shock bag. The Race springs are a triple stack in rear. 392 lb main, high rate helper and zero rate tender "ZRT". Touring and Race front use our standard double spring with main and high rate helper.
All NC Xidas will have the front boot and rear sprig bag. By early 2022, the NA, NB , ND and 86 kits will also include a new neoprene sleeve we're working on. These sleeves can be added to any 2.5 or 2.25" diameter coilover with 10 -12" spring length. Should have those ready in the next few months. The orange ring on the bottom of the rears is the rear damping adjuster. No need to go into trunk. Easily reached from behind the rear wheel with a 4mm hex key. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...eff9be9ff8.jpg |
I am currently deciding on this or a 7500DA with regressive valving, and Ed has been fantastic to talk to and has provided really good information. I'm just not really crazy about the lack pf travel on the Ohlins, and I do like to tinker.
Thanks for making a product for this niche. |
You can build a fantastic set of NC shocks using Penske 7500DA hardware. The tricky part is getting all the dimensions, valving, spring stacks and mounts fully optimized. In our case, we spent the last 3 years testing, making prototypes and getting everything completely dialed.

It's a tough decision for a slightly odd usage regimen . Edit: And I ordered a set along with some bump limiters. I drove a hillclimb route today and the Ohlins just isn't composed on the fractured pavement. |

If I may ask about your wheel/tire setup: -tire size and compound? -wheel width and offset? -fenders stock, rolled or flares? |

If I may ask about your wheel/tire setup: -tire size and compound? -wheel width and offset? -fenders stock, rolled or flares? 17x9 +45 Pulled and rolled. Fronts rub the liners on the current Ohlins on bumps cornering, rears just kiss at full stuff with the bump stop compressed. |

Yup. You'll need the travel limiters until you can do flares.
I hope you do :) Someday… I’m trying to stay (quasi) legal for STR which have a maximum wheel and tire and don’t allow flares. I’ll probably throw that out the window and do a 2.5 at some point, but… At a rougher autox today the soft rates I am running get great, and I didn’t get much rub. But I definitely found the bump stops. |
RX8!
Got an RX8 in the shop to do a fit check. We'll add these to our site soon. Much excite.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...395e92c9aa.jpg |
Prelim measurements look good. RX8 has a bunch more room for bump travel and width than NC. Shock dimensions are spot on but an RX8 fitment will require new, taller rear mounts. Pretty sure we can offer a kit with the same massive bump and droop travel as the NC kit, at maybe only $100 more.

Anyone have any questions on the NC Xidas?

Pallet of NC Xidas landed today. Mounts arrive in about a week. Should be shipping on schedule.
Long time waiting for this moment. So eager to get these into your hands. Also some ND shocks and top sekrit prototype bits https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...d5977e5740.jpg |
The bit about the RX-8 compatibility is pretty cool. When I get around to working on that project that might be a good option.
Question I had: Is that spring profile unique to Swift or can they be configured with something from Hyperco or Eibach instead? |

Standard 2.5"/65mm springs front and rear on NCX.
Late change to the design. Originally 2.25" straight, then 2.5" barrels. Then 2.5" straight. The barrel springs solved one problem but cased new ones. We were able to come up with a better overall design, more durable with greater versatility with the 65mm diameter springs. |
BUMP for NC Xida Promo.
Check out the product page for full details, but we are basically heavily incentivizing reviews. $200 after you write and publish a review of your new NC Xidas. Another $100 if you replaced a competitive product, so up to $300 in rebates. Club Orange still applies, so total possible discount of over $430. Promo good on orders placed by midnight December 6th. If you've already placed an order, no worries - this offer still applies to you. |

Other then that not sure if they are really competition or not for Xida's. |
Haha. No, not offering the additional bonus for those, sorry!! Full list of qualifying shock setups are on the product page.

Updated the original comparison composite with the ride heights embedded. Easier to get an idea of the travel range.

Mounts are the last parts we were waiting for. They left the factory a week or so late but they are finally in transit to us. Looking like we'll ship the first kits out next week. Woot!

Almost. Still waiting on mounts and bags. Should arrive this week but with the holiday probably won't get most of them shipped til next week. |

Another good video. There may be overlap but perhaps you want to do one for the ND version too. Good for prospective customers who search YT for ND-specific content and also good for those of us with confirmed orders who want to revel in our good judgment.

We had tracking for all the front mounts (UPS), due here last Wednesday. Repeated delays for whatever reason. Yesterday, the driveway (no gate) was partially blocked with cars. We heard the driver pull up, then just turnaround and leave. We then get tracking update "Driver needs security access to property". Really? Then notification of your forum post pops up in our inbox. 15 seconds later I hear the familiar horn of the UPS truck at our back door. Bingo, everything is finally here. No stress at all.. |

Great stuff. Thanks for posting. Eager to hear your first impressions.
Interesting enough to start a new thread for your install I think. Easier for people to follow and ask you questions directly. Post a link here if you decide to do that too. OK if we share your pics? |

You may absolutely use my pics. Sakebomb fit. No travel limiters needed. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...2dcedb8e5.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...fecb25c90.jpeg |
Very cool, and thanks. Glad you did not need the limiters. We can take those back if you end up not using them in front or rear. Reach out to Ed.

Fronts
Front installed. Can use all the travel. Tires kiss the liners at full stuff. Huge increase in droop travel.
Very minor touching on spring and upper control arm with my offset Delrin bushings and sphericals. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...c6daa2e17.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...2b4aa5999.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...97b4db02d.jpeg Former droop: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...4ae700ab7.jpeg Xidas: https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...9a8e93088.jpeg Full stuff: https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...4ec1e37c4.jpeg Contact, and I can still wiggle the spring so it really is just a touch, and mine is obviously not stock: https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...715c82fd9.jpeg |
Fantastic pics Jeff, Thank you for sharing!

Well
Xidas are magic

Review incoming
Drove the car, at least as much as street and weather have allowed.
I’ll be posting a review of the install, setup, driving, and comparison with the Ohlins in the next day or so. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...87e1dae9f.jpeg |

My NC Xida's showed up today. Just in time for the rain to come tonight, and an ice storm tomorrow. Then freezing temps over the weekend. So maybe early next week I can get my Junk2 pulled and the Xida's on.
|
 sorry it took so long to get 'em to you.

I just took my first quick drive around my neighborhood. I adjusted height and corner weights roughly and left the car on full soft all around. It felt like I was floating on clouds on my drive. Super happy with it. I am looking forward to getting some more miles and playing with the adjustments.

I will buy a race spring setup eventually. Wanted to start out with comfort. |
Cool. I have the Race version on order. The car already has race buckets and harnesses, so I can feel roughness even better than something with stock seats lol
|
I was instructing at the track today. Since I've sold Heinz, my track-mostly MSM, I have more time to bench race, kibbitz about the state of the world and/or ride along with other instructors. Today I went out with a fellow Miata Club member who, after discussing options for his PRHT NC last year, was on the pre-order list for Xidas. His car is (for now) mostly stock, save for the Xidas and 225/50R15 Nankang rubber, mounted on wider wheels. I was impressed with the amount of mechanical grip the car has, and also how stable to car felt through long sweepers. After several laps, he kindly offered to let me drive and I couldn't refuse. What a wonderful chassis! Turn-in is razor-sharp (almost twitchy compared to my Xida-equipped MSM). Drop-throttle rotation is quite pronounced but eminently controllable - this car is never going to bite you. Putting two wheels up on the curbing, as expected, is a complete non-event. I must say, I'm impressed. All the car needs to be an ego-destroyer (for other drivers) is more power. My understanding is that a built 2.5 is in the works for a winter project.
|
Glad you enjoyed it! We are excited to get back to the track with Kaiko :)
