Default Rx-7 Turbo II Diff install?

I was reading through Solo miata's diff section and i read that the FC's turbo II diff is a direct fit in the place of our miata's diff minus its long front pinion housing. i love doing custom fab work and i know it requires a custom drive shaft. would the stock 1.6 work? i have 2 extra in my garage that im willing to experiment on.

My friend with an turbo II FC has a extra Turbo-II diff that he said i can have.

would the axle shafts that are attatched to the turbo II diff fit the 1.6 half shalfs?

Any write ups on how to do a diff ive searched and found absolutely nothing on mturbo =(

The 1.6 diff is a 6" ring gear, while the Turbo II's has an 8" ring gear...so, yeah, the front pinion housing off a 1.6 diff will not bolt up to the Turbo II rear housing.

And given the fact that even the 7" Miata diff flanges are larger bolt spacing than the 6" Miata diff's flanges, the Turbo II's are definitely not going to mate with the 6" diff's half-shafts.

i know that all the flanges are different and i can source the parts needed.

what i was planning on doing was using using half of a 1.6 drive shaft and using half of turboII drive shaft weld em together and bam!

I was also looking at pics of a guy on cardomain who successfully did a turbo II diff install in his 1.6 so i know its possible now! =]

You will need to fab a bracket to mount the PPF to the TII pumpkin. You need a TII driveshaft for the flange that bolts to the pinion flange. The driveshaft will have to be shortened and the !.6 tranny front yoke grafted onto the TII driveshaft. That is in addition to your plan to weld TII flanges to your 1.6 halfshafts. If you make enough power to need a TII diff, then you will need custom halfshafts, not some rigged together, mismatched diameter halfshafts.

Unless you are planning a high horsepower/torque motor, the return on this project is minimal. There are easier ways to get a solid LSD behind your 1.6.
