Added Mazdacomps last weekend and my God, what a difference!!! It feels like a car should now :)

Dunno why so many people were bitching about these on other forums, the mounts should have been OEM installed!

Cheers,
Prospero

How difficult is it installing mounts with the engine in the car? I am really wishing I had done these mounts when I had the motor out.

I must admit that it took me nearly an entire day...

Driver side needed to have the mani pulled and the exhaust dropped down some... I fiddled with this for some time trying to pull the mounts out without yanking the mani but at the end of the day there was no way to do this from what I could find.

Pass side was a piece of cake; but close to the starter so I yanked off the neg battery cable to keep from making sparks...

Once the mounts were out of the car I took the time to clean everything under the car with a rag and mineral spirits... just to feel better about it all being clean and new looking. The mounts went into their little holders just fine but when it came time to wrestle the mounts back into place it was a bit of work. My motor had shifted in the chassis and so I had to align the bottom bolt first and then played with the 4 or 5 bolts into the block. Was not my idea of fun... had the wife help me with the alignment... big pry bar and all!

The end result was totally worth it!
Cheers,
Prospero

They are, after all,40+ years old. It's not like they need strong motormounts for their stock hp miatas when they do under the speed limit on their wine & cheese tours.

It took me about 2 hours. However, my manifold/turbo were not in the way. I would think that the ease of this project would greatly depend on your manifold. If it is in the way, it's going to be along project. If not, it will be easy. The hardest part for me was getting the motor lined up perfectly with the bolt holes on the mounts.

Ya I remember that being a huge bitch when dropping my new motor in. I had the mounts attached to the block first, then aligned the lower bolts into the frame.

As I remember, the job was pretty easy. Use a jack to take up the weight of the engine, and then unbolt the one large nut on the bottom of the subframe... and the 3 bolts that hold the bracket to the block. You should have enough room to wiggle it out. Install the new mount onto the bracket on the workbench, and reinstall. I didn't have AC or PS, so maybe I've got more room than the average on the exhaust side, but it's also a perfect opportunity to remove the IM brace on the intake side as well and make all you oil changes a piece of cake in the future.

Hey guys....

Im trying to install my engine mouts NB8B

4x14mm bolts hold the mout to the engine and 1x14mm bolt holds the mount to the sub frame (they are all undone)

Im trying to wiggle it out but it wont come out...

How far am I allowed to jack up the engine before I start to break things???

samnavy 06-06-2009 11:56 AM

You should have enough wiggle-room with the PS/AC hardlines to jack it up until the top of the transmission touches the tunnel. Just be gentle with pressure on the jack handle... you should be able to tell if you're hanging up on something. There's also your IC piping to consider. Pull the coupler at the turbo and the TB to make it easier.

Also, keep an eye on the plug for your CAS, i heard that it will hit.

I had to unbolt the metal vacuum pipe that goes to the brake booster and along the firewall to keep the CAS from whacking the pipe. From there I was able to jack up the motor all the way to the trans hitting the tunnel.

Good luck and have fun!

Prospero
