No news worth publishing. The gen 2 clutch kits won't be pre-order. They'll just show up and be in stock like the Crossflow did. I don't want people to wait for them as I don't have a firm ETA. They are going into production shortly but again, no firm ETA. Any guess I publish gets turned into a promise which gets turned into a flaming angry customer that "has been waiting on a clutch for months!" but never actually ordered anything.

I'll update when I have solid info. If you need a clutch now, don't wait for ours. Sorry!

I just installed a 949 Sport Clutch and lightweight steel flywheel in Red. I like it. I especially like the easy pedal effort and having a disengagement point high in the clutch pedal travel. This replaced a quite old ACT clutch and Fidanza aluminum flywheel that I inherited.

Here's why I like the easy pedal effort. The pedal effort on the old ACT clutch was really high, in fact, noticeably higher than the 2012-vintage ACT Stage 1 that is on my Silver car. This meant that the hydraulics were stressed. Even with fresh master and slave along with aggressive clutch pedal rod adjustment, clutch engagement point was pretty low. Not a huge issue for me, but when I would let someone else drive the car, they would be lazy with the clutch and reward me with a nicely crunched up gearbox. In fact, the impetus to swap the clutch was due to a gearbox swap (3rd gear synchro is GONE).

As for the Fidanza, well, it's OK. But the soft aluminum meant that the flywheel bolts would bite into the flywheel. In addition, using the OEM torque values (meant for a steel flywheel) would compress the flywheel material and cause the bolt holes to tighten and grip the bolts. So, you were just never that sure about the torque job. I'm happier going back to steel.

Anyways, new clutch and swapped tranny feel really nice.

Stage 1 fm has stock pedal feel and lightness and holds more torque than the organic, so to me there is no question.

Just wanted to throw out a little review of the 1.8 4 puck sprung clutch from SuperMiata. Pedal effort is amazingly light, quality release bearing and pilot bearing included. As the clutch has broken in the engagement is getting smoother. There is a little bit of chatter but honestly this clutch drives amazingly, takes just a little getting used to how quickly it will grab. I would much rather drive a puck clutch with a light pedal than a heavy *** ACT that will wear your thrust bearings.

1.6 8lb flywheel is good to go for street driving? Looking to get one to go along with the pucked ceramic 1.6 clutch.

Benign, no. Super light and fast revving, yes.
You'll get some noise on decel. If you want OEM like NVH, stick with a stock B6 flywheel or our light BP flywheel/ clutch combo.

How much noise? "some". If you are ok with that in exchange for better response, B6 light flywheel.

I got my new SuperMiata clutch for my 03 NA today. Shipping was quick as can be expected since I'm just over the mountain from them, but was necessary as I just couldn't make the time to drive over there. I hope to be able to make the trip to the shop sometime in the future.

Okay, so the clutch... I went with the 1.8 for my car because I wanted to still be able to drive it daily if I wanted to. First thing I did after pulling the parts from the boxes was to grab a scale and weigh everything. Full disclosure: I did this with a digital bathroom scale that is accurate to within a half pound so if there sounds like there could be deviation from listed specs, I'd say that's probably why. Having said that, both the flywheel (SuperMiata spec ACT) and the Pressure plate (Exedy rebuilt to SuperMiata spec by Centerforce) both came in at 9.5 lbs each. I specified a 4 puck ceramic/metallic sprung hub clutch disc (SuperMiata spec Centerforce), and this came in at 2.5 lbs which was derived by taking the weight of the whole assembly (minus bearings) and subtracting the weight of the flywheel and pressure plate. The weight of the entire assembly therefore was 21.5 lbs.

Packing was great, and the package included flywheel, pressure plate, disc, bearings, and alignment tool. Since the car its all going into is getting a transmission change at the same time, and the car itself is a garaged Southern California car all its life, I did not get the clutch hydraulic kit. That doesn't mean I won't be getting one, I just wanted to get eyes on mine first since, from the outside and from what I can see under the boot, everything looks good. Unfortunately, I'm not going to have time to pull everything apart for a few weeks, so the rest of this report will have to wait until then but, so far, I'm impressed with everything.

Would you recommend the puck or organic for a 02 NB with the 10lb flywheel that is street and track driven (track 2-3 times a month)? I'll likely be going boosted in the next 6 months... I currently have a relatively new Exedy KMZ03 with the 10lb flywheel (3000ish miles) and it already started slipping at the track this weekend.

I would never put a puck clutch in my car. I am about to swap from a FM2 clutch to the 949 organic street disk. Hopefully trans comes out today.
