Default Short Throw Shifter Info

What is the most agressive/least movement required short-throw shifter out there? Anyone have pictures, and able to compare one side by side with a stock 94-ish shifter? Dimensions would be even better. I need to know how long I can make the "tail" without rubbing in the "tunnel".

I made a shifter handle for my Seven, but after installing it, I realized there was too much throw with it on, so I had to revert to my old one. I did not notice it on my Subie, because I had a factory "performance" shifter on it initially, that had less throw than the stock shifter, and it worked ok.

Therefore, I am going to have to make a new shifter. Because I have been having problems finding a good boot that will fit with the Seven transmission tunnel/shifter, I think I am going to make a stainless shaft/stalk, maybe .5" diameter, and then once it's installed and working, I think I am going to make a gated shifter "base", or whatever you call that, at school. It'll keep me busy at school, as well as take care of the boot issue. That and look nice.

So, anyone have any photos or specs?

Nate

Jeez. I must have overlooked the Detail **** lights and siren. Most of the Subie is covered in sawdust from working in a cabinet factory and bringing it home each day. Cleaning the car daily just isn't in my list of priorities for daily driver.

As I mentioned, I am going to machine my own. My main question was, in that short throw, what is the difference between the pivot *****?

You could scale the image at MiataRoadster.com. I can do it for you if you give me real measurements of something in the photo, i.e. the distance between bolt holes in the boot. I probably have an old boot that I could measure, but I'd have to dig for it.

Yeah. I leooked around and it seems that all the true short throw shifters for the miata utilize that spacer. I was hoping to be able to avoid that, but it doesn't look like I can lengthen the fulcrum without lifting it. Bummer

What made you think that you could? The bottom of the shifter sits in a cup, on the bottom of a cup. TO make the lower arm longer you have to raise the fulcrum, lower the entire transmission, or break space/time.

Bob is running the tall version. It's not just the geometry of the ball - the base/fulcrum are changed with the MR kit. You won't be able to replicate it for the money if you time is worth anything.

When you buy that, remember that the owner of Miata Roadster wanted me banned and threatened to pull his sponsorship until I was banned, lol.

Hussy, aren't you were running one of these magical MR shifters as well?

No, just a 6-speed with an aluminium Mazdaspeed bushing. Suddenly I can find every gear, the first time. When compared to my sister's MSM shifter feel, I lol.

The sister car has one in the 6 speed. It must be made of unicorn loins because it does make the 6 speed feel bearable. I'll be ordering one up at some point.
