Rear Metal on Metal Noise
Been trying to locate this noise for a week or so now
I recently noticed that when I get rolling, shift, or reverse if there is enough torque to the wheels it makes a snapping/metal clanking sound, its only one clank and does not make any noise while moving. It definitely sounds like it's coming from the wheels because sometimes I hear the left followed by the right. Any ideas on what it could be? (replaced rotors, pads, and bearings and made sure everything was snug and tight) |
Something in the suspension setup in the rear. Get down there and look to see what'll move when the rear end gets some torque.

a few possibilities
Do you have coilovers? If you do - springs could be twisting, or they can be re-seatting if they weren't properly located. Sometimes pads stick, especially if caliper is not retracting fully. or you could be missing a metal shim holding the pad.To see if it is suspension or brakes try this - get into the trunk, stand there and kind of jump up and down. If no sound - raise the rear and rotate the wheels by hand and listen for sounds. |
