rear suspension stuck?
4 Attachment(s)
Hi,
so sorry for all the typos, I'm trying to do my best i'm curently removing my old oem suspention to fit new shocks/springs. I was able to remove the rear top plate's bolts without any problems, but the lower bolt(17mm) is next-to-impossible to remove I got a never modded 90 NA so I was kinda ready to see some stuff jammed, but at first I had no problem what-so-ever with it. the bolt is accessible only on one side, the other side is not a nut, but a sqare thing that is SUPOSED to bloc on a stopper inside the lower tab. the problem is that the ''stopper'' thigny is turning WITH the locking square/bolt. i tried my best, but there is no way to acess the other side of the forementioned bolt ,even a wrench cant get in there to hold off the ''square nut'' the time i remove the bolt. cant seems to find a way by myself, i'm at the point where i think i'll just fubar everything and buy another lower tab some pics just to help my case Attachment 189968 Attachment 189969 Attachment 189970 Attachment 189971 how can i acess the other side of the shock lower bolt? thanks all for your time |
I didn't read this, but I'm guessing the square nut is spinning. You can cut away some of the material to get a wrench up in thurr.
|
i seriously tought about grinding about 1/2'' of the lower tab, just to take it out/back in, because , honestly, even if i get it out without exploding everything, i'm gonna have a load of problems if i cant have a little more place to put it back in.
anyone allready had that kind of problems? |
Been there, done that. Bend some of the metal so you can access the square nut. A slim 18mm open end wrench should fit right in between to hold the nut while undoing the bolt.

thanks a million, i was sure that i was doing it the ''redneck way''

Diging up my buddy's old thread,
I'm having the same problem, it has been giving me headache since last summer. But for me, the square nut had come out on one side and the rubber bushing is all teared down and spinning free within the (what I would call : Knuckle) in the lower bushing on the shock absorber. So far, I though about cutting the base of the shock and have I don't know what in there to cut the damn bolt. I guess the bolt is "rust welded" to the sleeve in the bushing... Thank you |
happened to me too buddy.
helper side was jammed, but got it off when it snapped after cutting the lower tab. driver side wasen't jammed as much, i was able to remove the nut, but the bolt was ''rust-welded'' in the suspention bushing. i had a friend come to my place with his makita saw-all and cutted the fucker off( a 1/2'' metal blade clears the lower tab if you go diagonaly) |
Saw-all is my next try!
|
you wont be able to cut just the bolt, so you'll have to go diagonally, wich means cutting through the bushing, and there is a metal sleeve in the middle.
the sleeve is WAY harder to cut than the bolt. so buy a couple one:P |
I want to cut the sleeve too. I know this is hard steel and it isn't gonna be easy!
