Rebuilding/adjusting preload on OEM front hub?

So, I swapped out the driver side front hub at 140k miles since it had devloped the slightest hint of play . It could be felt, but not enough movement to see, and only when the wheel was unloaded. With the car on the ground you couldn't find any play.

When I took it off the inner rear race stayed on the spindle.

After fully dissasembling the hub, the balls and races look to be in great shape.

Looking at all this, it looks to me like this can be rebuilt. Some fresh grease and a little more preload? Am I wrong?

Also, preload would be adjusted by taking a few thou. Off one of the inner races, yes?

Autozone Online has Moog (NTNs Japan) for $98 each with a $35 give card for each $100 spent. Buy 3 and something else (I got a wiper) and get the 4th one free.

Oh, I already have replacement hubs. This is more a curiosity/learning exercise than anything else.

Took everything into work to check it under magnification. Races look perfect, balls look perfect. I cleaned and measured the balls with the digital micromiter we have. They all measure within 0.002-0.003mm (11.106mm nominal, biggest and smallest measurements were 11.105mm and 11.108mm.) That is right at the limit for this micromiter though. It looks like they fall in to G100 or better based on that.

The head engineer where I work as suggest just oiling it and putting it back together to see if the play I felt is still there or not, so I will try that. If it is, I will try shaving a bit off the face off the one race (not the part the balls ride on, the part that sets the preeload when they touch) and see what that does. Once it feels good I will grease it with Amsoil race grease and put it back on to see how it holds up.
