Replacing clutch
I replaced my clutch and flywheel on Friday with a Flyinmiata happy meal kit. My brother has told me it is necessary to bleed the lines after replacing the clutch. Is this true? The slave wasn't messed with other than removing from the gearbox.
No its not necessary, but not a bad idea either as its part of regular maintenance.
Bleeding not necessary, but proper adjustment of the clutch travel is absolutely required.
I replaced the slave and put all new fluid in. The clutch is golden, good pedal pressure, engages properly now. I also blew the differential today I believe
1.6 diff? Do you know what you're going to replace it with?
When I bought the car the guy gave me a welded diff and says it's out of a 94. It's not the entire housing, just this part. I'm reading everywhere that in order to use this is have to change the driveshaft and axels
Alright, so the new diff I have is out of a 1.8 and it doesn't fit in my housing. I kinda knew that was gonna happen but I had hope that maybe it would be different or that the diff I had was out of a 1.6. Anyways, now I'm in search of a 1.8 housing.
You're going to need the driveshaft and axles too if swapping to a 1.8 rear.
Even if I'm going from a 1.6 VLSD to an open 1.8? Also, everywhere I read says I need the axels from the 1.8. Does that mean I need the small stub that actually goes into the diff. The small part with the 4 bolts that bolts up to the axels or can I use the ones I have from the 1.6
You might as well get a diff that isn't welded, unless this is a drift car in which case I wouldn't replace it..... you'll probably wreck it before the diff explodes.
Yes you need a driveshaft and axles, there are both one piece and two peice axles, if you get two piece units you need the stub. |
I decided against the welded diff after reading more about street Driveability. I also live in swfl where it rains everyday so that wouldn't be good. Ive ordered a 1.6 VLSD with stub shafts as the replacement. I was also wrong in thinking the blown diff was a VLSD. It was an open diff.
The diff so nice you'll blow it up twice?
Previous diff was open. Not sure if that makes a difference or not. But for now it's what I need to get to and from school. No more clutch dumps and stupid driving for a while
