You know, not to be an *** that doesnt trust your engineering even if it is pretty bad here, but you probably value your life as a very pricey one. Is your life worth $400. The $400 for either a harddog or bossfrog?

not to **** anyone off or anything, or to get flammed at even more, but if i roll my miata. wouldnt i die without a roll bar? so i mean its like i die any ways with or without this poorly built bar right?. so why not everyone just sit tight and wait for me to roll and see if i die or not. (this doesnt mean try and run my *** off the road to see if you can get me to roll, then stop and see if my bar holds up)

1. You roll, you slouch naturally, survive the rollover. Quite possible.
2. You roll, you slouch naturally, your shitty rollbar collapses and smacks you in the head/strangles you/breaks your neck/back/skull/combination of these. You die. Quite possible.

If im not mistaken, few users on here are actually alive due to a good rollbar. Doppleganger being one. I remember a story of his old miata as he rolled down a hill or a mountain. Something of that nature.

I will tell you I am here today because of a helmet.

I used to ride sportbikes daily, and went down pretty hard once due to a nice 6" deep exposed rebar pothole some jackass construction crew left in the middle of a turn.

I was wearing a $300 helmet, and was glad I was.

Goes back to what Sam said on top of this page...what's your head worth to ya.

You can try and reinvent the wheel with a fraction of the knowledge, none of the development or manufacturing equipment...or you can trust one of the several quality companies that strive to make their equipment to specific standards.

Your call with you....just don't come on this forum and try and act like it's a good idea for others to do as well...misinformation will not be tolerated here.

My donor Miata is a rolled 96 M-edition. The guy rolled it doing like 50 and rolled it twice with no roll bar. LET ME BE CLEAR!!! I do believe you should have a roll bar! But I have to say i was impressed to see how little the windshield defelected. It was only squished down 3-4 inches. I for sure thought it would collapse completely. The cars is not without some safety design features, but it is still a little convertable.

As sacington mentioned and I think I did before as well. Doing a cheapy bar like this would make me more concerned with the bar hurting you due to failing in a way that it was not intended to. Go look how close that bar sits to your head. Its awefully close and trust me it would hurt to make contact with it in a wreck. Who cares if it keeps you from getting crushed but it cracks your scull in the process.

Look, I realize that if you want to do this you are going to. I was young, dumb and broke as hell too and did some things that I am not to proud of. Do your homework and improve on everything as much as you can. Just remember that when the **** hits the fan, do you want to trust that bar that you saved $200 on by making it yourself?

Do you have $250 on you right now? A REAL rollbar just went up for sale locally. You should just buy that.

Isn't Boss Frog right by the IL border of WI, too? You could drive up and save the shipping charge.

Ok so I have not read the whole thread but seriously DONT use that, you are better off not having it in your car. Go to a metal fab shop and have them bend you up a main hoop using DOM 1.5" .095 wall mild steel tubing or if your cheap go with HERW .120 wall. It will be so much safer and cant cost you more than $100. last I bought HERW tubing was only $60 for 20' seriously, If you can weld just have the hoop bent and buy some extra tube to do the rest and I will be correct and safer no mater where you use the car! I dont care if its sitting in a parking lot, DONT use that.

Paul's another one to be alive due to the rollbar. Deer came out in the middle of the night and he hit a mount of dirt and flipped 'dukes of hazzard' style. He had a hardcore in the car. Walked away with a scratch only cause he had the gutted doors.

******* idiots from illinois. Its a bad idea, get over it. Move on and do a single hoop

And you used a pipe bender instead of a tube bender (at least from what was shown in the pic) you have basicallycrushed the corners which is awesome the structural rigidity of the tube.

I was just upset you continued to argue under the premise of spreading the knowledge to others that might follow the same path.

Like I said a while back there....I'm really glad you're listening.

Sorry we crapped all over this thread, but we had to.

Now that you're doing it the "right way" feel free to start a "how to" thread for others that are motivated and have the skills.

yeh simple advice would have been good. No need to **** over any ones thread. Not crying about anything. Seem to see it A LOT here at mt.net Yeh i will be going to a couple shops to source out some DOM piping. and just use the bar i have now as a guide so i can have the shop make the bends. So i guess its just a mock up

That was a couple years ago. (3-4?). That was the original machine. I believe this one is machine III.

what about his dumb?

DOM and a single main hoop. good. if you want us to stop bitching, post something like this:

"I grabbed the SCCA / NHRA / IRL / WHATEVER safety guidebook for rollbar construction and will be using it as a template for my rollbar build. that way I can do it for much cheaper but still be safe in a wreck. yay me!"
