Thanks for the tip on car-part.com search...this could not have come up at a better time.

I've tried calling local yards, and there is one in Houston (Action Auto) that has pretty well cornered the Miata market, and they use their monopoly to their advantage.

I'm going to call around and pick up the first cheap swap I can find.

Done buffing. Whaddya thing?

There is some extremely tiny surface pitting, though it's not significantly different from what I see on the teeth that didn't rust.

I'm not going to pretend that i know whether that pitting is bad or not but I cant imagine that it would be a big deal at all.

Have you considered cryo treating those pieces?

Nice buff job. Hell, the teeth look good to me, go for it. I agree the pitting does not look too bad.

From this...

To this...

People are going to think I've mispoken when I use the phrase "the patience of Joe".

That's some nice work right there. In addition to "carrier" you can search car-part.com using "axle assembly(with housing).

Several packs of these, and a fair bit of patience.

I'm pretty happy with the way it's turned out. I may use a polishing wheel to finish it off, but I'm thinking that this gearset will work.

How did this turn out? Is this r&p a go?

Thread sidejack--- does anyone how do the RX7 clutch LSDs hold up under 400+hp? Will they just burn up or be ok?

Wow Joe. Damn good job sir.
A CRYO-REM treatment will further refine the surface.

When is the planned install? I'm interested since my new setup will be a 6 speed with 4:10 rear gear. It would be great to have a 3.6. Are you installing it yourself or having someone else do it? I don't have the tools, so I'll have to see what the cost is to have a r&p installed. It also doesn't sound like a job for a person inexperienced with this type of swap.

Bumping this up to see if its been successfully installed. If so, I'll have to order a carrier or two ASAP

These rear ends are a breeze to setup. The hardest part is getting the crush collar crushed just right. It'd be nice if someone milled a solid pinion spacer for them

you might be able to do away with that rust just by letting it soak in oil over night. I am also thinking it's a wolf spider.

I've hardly been home at all the past few months (writing this from DFW) so no. Besides, I need to buy a car to put it in first.

Actually, I'm a newb on here but have been on other forums LONG before this one...... We can't help it if you are a post *****

Joe, please let it know how it goes. I found mention of a solid pinion spacer being made on another thread somewhere, but cannot find it now. HIGHLY suggested if you plan on doing any real launching...... Unless the Mazda crush sleeve is stronger then the Ford 9 inch, 8.8's, or GM's 10/12 bolt crush sleeve.

There's a fella in florida, Ben @ Puddymod Racing, that machines solid sleeves.
