Scored a cheap 3.636 R&P
#21
Thanks for the tip on car-part.com search...this could not have come up at a better time.
I've tried calling local yards, and there is one in Houston (Action Auto) that has pretty well cornered the Miata market, and they use their monopoly to their advantage.
I'm going to call around and pick up the first cheap swap I can find.

Done buffing. Whaddya thing?
There is some extremely tiny surface pitting, though it's not significantly different from what I see on the teeth that didn't rust.

Several packs of these, and a fair bit of patience.
I'm pretty happy with the way it's turned out. I may use a polishing wheel to finish it off, but I'm thinking that this gearset will work.

When is the planned install? I'm interested since my new setup will be a 6 speed with 4:10 rear gear. It would be great to have a 3.6. Are you installing it yourself or having someone else do it? I don't have the tools, so I'll have to see what the cost is to have a r&p installed. It also doesn't sound like a job for a person inexperienced with this type of swap.

Actually, I'm a newb on here but have been on other forums LONG before this one...... We can't help it if you are a post *****
Joe, please let it know how it goes. I found mention of a solid pinion spacer being made on another thread somewhere, but cannot find it now. HIGHLY suggested if you plan on doing any real launching...... Unless the Mazda crush sleeve is stronger then the Ford 9 inch, 8.8's, or GM's 10/12 bolt crush sleeve.
